Study and you'll pass - skim and you won't
To get straight to the point - I passed on 10 April. Having said that, this was not my only training resource (I also used "A Cloud Guru" and "Linux Academy," both online video training sites). But what this book did do was give me the ability to sit down and read, at my own pace, and fill in the gaps inevitably left by the videos. YES, this book was written for the old interface. It doesn't mean you can't find anything on AWS now. In fact, if UI changes have completely derailed your study of the AWS CSA-A syllabus, then you're probably going to have trouble passing the exam anyway. It's not easy, even the Associate level. I am not a developer, I am a sysadmin. I will quickly become an obsolete dinosaur if I do not get up to speed on the "Dev" side of "DevOps", at least to a baseline degree of competency, and on the world's largest cloud platform.Amazon changes things on AWS at a frightening pace. No book ever published is going to be able to keep up with those changes. But the mechanics, the fundamentals, the underlying frameworks, are still the same. This book will teach you those. I highly recommend you also use a video training course. The video courses I used are for the 2017 exam - and you will never be tested on the UI itself. Having trained for the 2017 exam, I also agreed to take a beta exam (because it was 50% off) when registering on WebAssessor. The exam I took was 80 questions, instead of 60, and included questions on Kinesis, as well as making a clear distinction between NAT Gateways and NAT instances. Lots of VPC questions, lots of EC2, lots of RDS.Bottom line - don't rely on only a single source for study, especially on a platform as vast and complex as AWS. I became very frustrated a few days before my exam. Frankly, I didn't expect to pass. It didn't help that the staff at the Kryterion testing center had never given an Amazon exam before and I saw them refer to handwritten notes repeatedly (!!). You will not receive any sort of hardcopy confirmation that you passed from the testing center, so if they're not really sure what they're doing, stick around and make sure it gets submitted properly. I had an email from Kryterion waiting on me when I arrived home with a PDF of my certificate and the Certified AWS logos you're entitled to use once you pass. I don't even know if I'll receive a paper certificate in the mail! But if you study hard and you do the labs, you can pass. I'm living proof of that.

Outdated. Missing critical info.
I took the exam today. It asked me questions about ECS which is not covered at all in this book. It asked me detailed questions about API Gateway, which receives a one-paragraph overview in this book. This book _did_ include a section on the type of fire alarms and smoke detectors used at AWS data centers which, as you can guess, was not included in the test. I feel like this book could have been better.

Excellent study guide for Amazon web services
This guidebook provides great descriptions of the Amazon web services and how they work. The book is meant for passing the Associate Exam for Amazon web services, but it also working as a learning resource for AWS. I bought the book just to learn more rather than take the test, and I was pleased with the content of the book. There are quizzes at the end of each chapter which are fairly challenging. You have to read the chapter very carefully to get all the answers correct. Chapters start on basic AWS services such as EC2 and S3, and the book logically progresses to newer more complicated services. The last chapter focuses on best practices.Language in the book is direct and well written. The book does not feel like it has 7 authors as transitions are seamless from chapter to chapter. I learned a good deal about how the services work. The balance was reasonable between text and diagrams of architecture.Overall, I would recommend this book if you are studying for the exam, or if you are just looking to learn more about AWS.

Garbage
I scored 97 correct questions out of 100 in this exam review after going through this entire book. Studied off of ~200 flash cards available through Wiley/Sybex with this book along with external sources. There were still questions on this exam involving material I had never seen or only mentioned in passing in this official study guide. And, no, I did not take the 2018 exam. This is the official study guide. I understand it is a bit old, but if the test has changed that much then this book needs to be pulled.

Great reference work, not so great test prep
It's quite possible that when this book was published in 2016 that it accurately reflected the content of the AWS certification exam. Alas having taken the exam yesterday and BARELY squeaked it out, I must say this book is of limited value for exam takers at the end of 2017. Not more than 10% of this items covered in this book appeared on my exam and a good number of test subjects are not in the book. If you are looking for certification test prep, I would suggest looking into the online courses available from various vendors. Now that being said, this is in fact a really great and well written book for teaching and guiding learners in the breath and depth of AWS technologies. I have been using AWS (certain parts) for almost 4 years but I learned a ton from this book. I am a much better and far more well informed AWS architect for putting my time into fully reading this book. Again the downside is this was largely irrelevant to the exam (I should be fair and say that having a stronger general knowledge of AWS helped me make better educated guesses at the topics the book never told me would be covered in the exam).Note again this is for the Oct 2016 first edition as regards certification in November of 2017.

Great study guide and access to online practice exams
I can't give a full and detailed review on the book because I didn't read through the entire thing. I mainly focused on the chapter summaries and the online practice exams that this book gives you access to. I took online courses through acloud.guru and read up on all of the important FAQs for the exam topics. Also keep in mind that AWS is a moving target. They are constantly updating existing features and releasing new ones. Therefore, this book is a snapshot in time of what AWS was. Bear this in mind when taking the test because the test takes a while to catch up to reality. You might want to study the latest stuff, but you won't be tested on it. Lambda revolutionized cloud computing and it only just started showing up on the exam. I took the exam about three weeks ago and passed.

Do not rely on this book to get you ready for the exam
I have just taken my exam. Out of 55 questions in the exam I was prepared for no more than 10 thanks to this book. This book has a lot of information in it which is good if you want to learn about AWS in general but it is NOT and should not be labeled "AWS Certified Solutions Architect Official study guide". I am lucky enough to have a year of experience working with AWS so I managed to pass the exam, but I spoke to couple of people who failed and some of them were really annoyed that this book did not get them ready. Also as mentioned in other reviews lot of information is outdated and new services are not covered at all. For example in my exam was about 5 questions dedicated to ALB about which there is no mention in the book at all. There is also quite a few errors/misprints/mislabels in the book. This book is in urgent need of new edition

I'm pretty sure the exam only covered the current EC2-VPC product
This is just about enough to pass the exam, combined with perhaps 20 hours of hands-on-experience and 20 hours spent reading white-papers. The numerous mentions of the outdated EC2-Classic product are a bit worrying, I'm pretty sure the exam only covered the current EC2-VPC product. There are lots of questions at the end of each chapter which are useful for testing knowledge. The answers at the back of the book are slightly mis-labelled. The book's main value to me was as a single document that covered nearly everything that I needed to know for the exam.

Super Book
A great book to get the understanding of AWS services required for Solution Architect - Associate level certification along with questionnaires and excercises. I cleared the certification exam on first attempt with the help of this book.

Misguiding see attached example
It's an outdated book, AWS needs to update it every year.

Extremely useful !
This is a really well structured study guide. The theoretical content is presented clearly and each section has practical exercises you can work through, generally using the AWS free tier. There are Also helpful Exam style multiple choice review questions at the end of each chapter. One thing to note. At the end of each chapter there is a summary which basically goes over the same material more succinctly. Personally I find this really helpful to reinforce the new knowledge, but I’ve seen reviews of other books showing some people are irritated by this approach.
