I lost the holder for my smoke alarm and this magnet is a strong alternative. Easy to install, no hassle, comes with 2 and holds very secure.

As expected

These Magnetic Adhesive Pads made it super simple to put up our new smoke detectors. And they also will make it super simple whenever the batteries will need to be replaced. Just grab the smoke detector off the wall, replace the batteries, and then pop the detectors back on the other magnetic pad.I did leave off one star, only because if we ever decide we want to put the detectors in another location, getting the pad that is stuck to the wall "unstuck" could be an issue and will probably take some paint with it. IT's too bad they couldn't have made these pads with some kind of removable adhesive like those Command strips have.Other than that minor issue, I love these magnetic pads!

Easier for me to peel and stick than to drill and screw, and motivated me to install much-needed smoke detector units. Simple: mark the location, wipe the surface clean, peel, stick and hold the flat plate on the mounting surface (I press for 60 seconds). Peel and stick the other side (the one with the magnets) on the bottom of the smoke detector mounting bracket - the bracket can be attached to the unit, or not, but would have greater strength while you press down, if attached; hold for at least 10 seconds, per directions (I hold a bit longer and make sure there is even pressure all around). WAIT 24 HOURS. Install the smoke detector, magnet to plate. Center as necessary. Easy.I've had 7 installed for several weeks now, and have pulled a couple down and put back up. No problems, no lack of adhesion. Just slide the unit and it comes right off the metal plate if need be. Re-position the unit however you like if a side "looks" better than another, make the test button more accessible, etc. I'm a believer. They work.One caveat: take a look at the configuration of your unit to ensure that if there is a battery to be replaced, the enclosure will still be accessible with a flat plate glued to the bottom of the mounting bracket. Many are sealed now but not always. (Clearly these are for battery-powered only, units.)

This is so much better than drilling holes to install a smoke alarm. Makes taking it down a snap. Very secure.

Magnets are quite strong. BUT, the adhesive cover as it is being removed, often takes the adhesive with it.This render the magnetic plate useless. Even when I was extra careful, I still pulled off some adhesive with the protective layer.

They are stronger than i thought
