lightweight and collapses nicely
I have one of these and have owned it for over a decade. I decided to buy a second one to have as a spare. The wooden handle is nice and sturdy and the fact you can spin the shaft around makes it easy to heat up things easily. Weather you are heating up marshmallows for smores or cooking a big fat bratwurst over the campfire this can take it. I have used it to cook 4 hotdogs at the same time and even at full extension it only bent slightly. I will say the tines do not have any sort of cover over them so what I did was take a chunk of open cell foam and jabbed them into it "after they cooled down of course" that way it didn't poke through anything it shouldn't. It is easy to clean and like I said I have been using one for at least 13 years now and this new one looks to be the same quality as the first one. Happy camping!

Good for a fire pit cookout
As presented. Worked well at our cookout. Will order more.

Happy with the purchase.
I purchased the product for roasting marshmallows over our fire pit on the deck. These are well made and nicely telescope to make the compact for storage.

Love how it condenses down into small size
I hate it when people say oh I haven't used it yet but it looks great. Well I'm going to say that myself. It's long past camping season when I found this, but I played with it when I got it and I think it will be just as strong or stronger than my existing hot dog roaster. I love the wood handle, and I especially love how small this folds down into. I can't wait to use it next summer. I even bought a second one after I got the first one.

good value
Pretty flimsy; less so if you don't extend it all the way.It has worked for a few fires and many sausages. It seems to be best to cook just one at a time long-ways on the skewer. The little red ring lets you spin it but I think I'd prefer it to be solid.Overall OK and good value, since it's next to free.

Perfect
At first, I thought it seemed flimsy because the handle rotates separately from the fork, but then I realized this is an ingenious design feature. The red collar at the top of the handle acts as a sort of dial, allowing you to rotate the fork with your thumb and index finger while holding the handle. This way you can rotate your food very easily with one hand. On top of that, the telescoping allows it to be very long when in use and it barely takes up any space when packed. It's also very light. The fork tines are long enough to fit 2-3 hot dogs, and they are close enough together to both pierce a marshmallow so it doesn't spin when you're trying to rotate it. Possibly the best $3 I've ever spent.

Should a serious camper buy these?
One thing I love to do while camping is grill meat over an open fire. ESPECIALLY sausage and hot dogs. Or pineapple. Or starbursts, or biscuit dough... mushrooms, bell peppers, onions... We're an adventurous bunch. I have some heavy duty grill sticks in my arsenal, but I had no access to any of my regular collection for my last camping trip which led me to trying out these very flimsy looking, light weight cooking sticks.THEY DID GREATThey look flimsy but they're way more solid than I expected. The telescoping feature is well designed and even when fully extended they felt sturdy. The base rotates which I didn't think would be a big deal, but it actually is quite a nice feature! It makes it easy to rotate heat around your Weiner.Low downAffordableSturdyHolds a hot dog with no problemsExcellent from marshmallows

Love the compact size!
Just used this telescoping fork for the first time over the weekend and I am SOOOOO glad I went ahead and purchased it! It extends quite far which is great on a warm night so you don't have to get too close to the fire to roast your food. I roasted both hot dogs and marshmallows (different times, of course!) and it worked out great! I was even able to get 2 hot dogs on there at once and I wasn't afraid they were going to slide off. There is a red plastic knob at the base of where the metal and wood meet so you can twist the metal portion to rotate your food - without having to rotate your wrist. It also collapses to a VERY compact size (about 12 inches). The wooden handle keeps you from burning your hands if you like to slow roast. I will be buying at least one more but probably 3 more so each member of the family can have their own.
