I purchased this item for non-standard use. I am digging up an old well that used heavy galvanized pipe. I am having to raise 20 foot sections at a time of extremely heavy pipe, using these clamps to keep it from falling down in the well shaft. They work well, and have done the job to prevent what could be a serious issue if the pipe cuts loose and falls in.

Great portable vise for a handyman or DIYer. I mounted mine to plywood about 24 x 30 to clamp to my Dewalt folding work table or use on the ground. The vise held the pipe with ease, never slipped. I'll be taking it off the plywood for easy storage.

I bought this vise to hold 3/4 black iron pipe for wood pipe clamps. It costs the same price for a 10 foot pipe as it does for on 36" pipe, threaded at each end. I cut the 10 foot pipe into 4 pieces, but then two of them need to be threaded. My standard vise would not hold the pipe. This pipe vise did an excellent job and holds the pipe securely. I took a star away because, everything was loose, and one of the bolts was missing. It does mar the pipe as others said, but I don't care for my application.

Another junk Amazon tool. Castings are poor and rough with pieces not cut off from the pouring. Covered in thick orange paint that prevents the tool from being bolted together. Clamping handle has cheap plastic ends that stripped when snugged down. Bolts are cheap Chinese hardware that bends easily. Waste of time and money.

This vise definitely holds the pipe in place without twisting in the vise when using a handheld electric pipe threader. Just make sure the pipe is firmly secured in the vise. I mean tight.

Hold parts with slipping.

They work well. You can't beat the price on these! The paint comes off easy, poor adhesion. They don't look pretty after a while but get the job done.
