I assume you mean a MacBook Pro not Bro? Laptops tend to take the 2.5inch disks not 3.5 inch Some will have more modern M2. disks Watch a YouTube video on how to replace drive so you can look at what you have. if it's the smaller 2.5 inch disk get a replace SSD one not SATA as the speed difference is noticeable.

The model number I think. Certainly the new generation drives are a different model number to the same size which I bought a year ago. The new generation drives I bought were both HDWG480. At the end of last year this entry in Amazon (prior to 'new generation' being listed) was HDWG180. Both types have been fine in different Synology NAS units although the HDWG480 generates a complaint that it isn't "approved hardware" or similar when installed in the NAS. The HDWG480 has worked fine. Both old and new are a bit 'clunky" in use but I've been happy with them. I do hate how Amazon mixes up different products.

Hello Corneliu, It states the cache size in the description but to be sure I suggest that you check the model number on the Toshiba website. I think that the '21' has 256 and '31' has 512. But check as I also think that one is an older version.

All of the other answers are incorrect. The difference between the "NAS" and "New Generation" is that the "New Generation" model is the updated N300 model with 5 x 1.6TB platters and 10 read/write heads, versus the old model with 6 x 1.33TB platters and 12 read/write heads. The old model also has 128MB cache, whilst the updated model has 256MB cache, though there are some old models with 256MB cache made during the platter transition. Simply put: Old N300 8TB model = HDWG180UZSVA. New, updated N300 model: HDWG480UZSVA (Amazon incorrectly lists this as HDWG460UZSVA for the 8TB drive - HDWG460UZSVA is the model number of the 6TB drive).
