My significant other was looking for a mortar and pestle to crush garlic, onion, and other herbs when cooking. We looked around our local groceries and stores and weren't able to find anything that seemed high quality at a reasonable price. I'm glad I took a chance on this mortar and pestle, its perfect! Its quite large, as far as I've experienced, and is sturdily built. Hearing how hard the hammering of the pestle can get when its being put to use, its impressive it hasn't shattered or so much as cracked since we've been using it. This is just the right size for our uses. If your questioning whether this product is what you're looking for in a mortar an pestle, I'd say go for it. It was actually a little larger than I thought it would be, however that does not detract at all from it in the least, in my opinion only makes it more versatile with it's uses for larger herbs to be ground. It's solid! By that I mean the marble is thick, there is no thin part to the marble that would make you leery of accidentally making it crack while grinding anything. Bonus part! it's heavy not so heavy that it's cumbersome but that you will now it's not going to tip over on you, with it's solid weight you know it will stay put when using it.And did I mention it's beautiful? Well it is! Love marble!Shipped really fast, no issues with the packaging either!

I used this mortar to grind some toasted cumin seeds and was amazed at how easily it ground the seed and to the crushed texture I needed. If I wanted to make it into ground cumin, it wouldn't have taken much longer or much effort. It is a heavy, solid kitchen tool I hope to have around for a long time!

I wasn't sure about marble at first. I used to work in a federal office building that had marble stairs that were about 80 years old (assuming they are original) that has worn down over the years from people stepping in the same areas over and over. I purchased a couple other mortars and pestles but actually have come to prefer this design. The double ended pestle is a huge plus when one is grinding rice and other items to clean and cure it as having a larger surface in the palm of your hand, in comparison to other designs, helps the hand last longer.

I wanted to add a smaller size mortar and pestle to my kitchen tools. This works amazing for smaller jobs. Both the morter and pestle are a nice weight and it seasoned up very well. So far I've used it to make garlic paste, fine powdered salt for popcorn, finely ground eggshells for my garden, and an herbal poultice using fresh herbs and oil. Super easy to clean up (don't use soap just warm water) and it looks gorgeous on my sideboard. Extremely happy with it.
