I got this to use a leg pad when I flintknap. It’s perfect.

My old A5 notebook was fake leather advertised as real on Amazon, so when it started falling apart I decided that rather than get burned again I would just make my own. Bought this and an A5 ring binder mechanism, salvaged the brass clasps off the old notebook.The leather was easy to work. I had the whole thing done in about half an hour, and I have nothing like the proper tools (I used a pencil to mark my measurements, a pocket knife to cut them, and, a large nail and rat's tail file to make and widen my holes). You can see the result in the pictures - given my skill level and the tools I was using, it came out remarkably well. I can only assume this is due to the workability of the leather.I ordered the "soft brown" variant; it's a soft, matte leather colored warm middle brown. Smells like leather. Patinas nicely with use. I have no complaints.

This item is for a Christmas gift

This is a nice thick piece of hide. It's soft but not to soft. What do you expect from a thick hide? I always enjoyed the color of this hide. I ordered this to make a pipe wrap and it turned out great. With extra piece left over. The string that came with it . Is long enough to do what I needed . Another project comes up that needs a thick piece of leather. I will order another one and I will refer this item to my family and friends. I would have given 5 stars for softness , but like I have said, " It is a nice thick hide".
