Q: How wide is the bridge?

The horizontal boards are 24 inches wide. The space between the railings is 22.5 inches wide. The width measuring from outside the railings is 26 inches.

Q: Would this bridge be appropriate to lay across a ditch so that we can walk across?

I wouldn't recommend it for an "every day" occurrence. The bridge isn't built with heavy materials. It looks great and I have walked over it but if you have a deep ditch wider than about 4 feet I would suggest something made with construction grade treated lumber such as 2x6's and 3/4 inch treated plywood.

Q: Does it need to be fastened to the ground?

I do not have it fastened to the ground, it's just heavy enough to keep itself in place

Q: Will this bridge support 250 pound guys crossing one at a time with landscaping gear?

My husband says he wouldn't push it that way. We always go over 1 at a time, but not carrying heavy stuff (and we don't weigh 250). He thinks it would be questionable.
