Do these need a relay?

I wired these lights together, at the end of the wiring a added a fuse, the wiring from the fuse was wired onto a switch for the lights and from there wired to the battery.

Are these to be wired in a series?

No, they need to be wired parallel. Grounds to ground Positive to positive

Are these the same as used on Boston Whaler cockpit hardtop courtesy lights?

No,they are not the same. These are good led generic lights that can be applied to almost any 12V systems with low amps. Super easy to install and wire up. These lights works great on my boat.
