Yes it does have a usb for sticks uploading patterns to embroider

Does it allow for free style sewing?

Not exactly sure I understand the question. You could use a floating foot that would allow you to move the fabric more freely than using a regular pressure foot. I hope this helps.

Brother SE1900

This is a very easy to use sewing machine, has helpful instructions and it will say to read the manual before operating which I highly recommend. I did go on YouTube to view some instructions on the setup which helped also. It came with some prefilled bobbins which makes changing colors a breeze.

Very easy for the novice sewist

My sister bought me this machine for Christmas and I could not love it more. It’s very easy to use. The manual is helpful and there are plenty of YouTube tutorials to help along the way. It’s easy to learn how to switch back and forth from regular sewing to embroidery.
