I have another ferro rod, It is great. But this ferro rod is even better!! It really puts out the sparks, is nice and large and should last a long time. It is all ferro rod, a wooden handle on the end would be an improvement. Overall I give this product, "top marks"

I was taught that you should carry at least 3 different ways to make fire and 3 different tinders with you when out in the wild. Thats what I do. This works for one of the ways. Its good to have in a Bug Out bag or emergency kit because it is not effected by moisture like matches or lighters are. I sprays a respectable amount of hot sparks when struck and can light a fire with basic tinder, very quickly. Its built tough.

You won't be disappointed, as this throws off way more sparks than the smaller ones. Keep one in your fire starting kit along with vaseline soaked cotton balls(or your choice of more expensive firestarters) and you'll always get a fire going. It works very well :)

I bought this ferro rod because the hex shape fits into a carpenters crayon holder. It is a perfect fit. Most of it fits all the way in providing protection for packing. I loosen the holder then slide out the rod for use. The two make a great system. With such a rekiable and firm grip, getting a shower of sparks is easy.
