Q: What is the ratio of water to mortar to make this bag work with ease?

I built a 1400 sq ft flagstone patio using Sakrete Mortar. I tried using the Marshalltown GB690 bag with inconsistent results. I made up mixtures of mortar to water at known dilutions and found that the problem has been the batch to batch inconsistency of the mortar. On close examination of the mortar some sacks had fine beach-like sand and worked well. While others contained a coarser grade of sand and clogged the Marshalltown bag at any concentration. Is there a brand of mortar or additive available that works consistently? I would be very grateful as I am building brick pillar caps with a similar problem.

Q: Would the tip work for dispensing grout into 1/16" openings between rough stone? I would be using this for mosaic art pieces.

I don't think so. Maybe if the work is flat on a table or something. I have used these grout bags for years. The problem with small grout lines is the material has to real loose or watery. It might get real messy.

Q: Made of seamless black vinyl, that's not what's in the picture, so what's it made of?
