Hydraulic Battery Cable Crimper
I had bought a hammer type crimper to make battery cables for my golf cart. After reading advice not to use that system with pure copper strand cable I sent it back and bought this 10 ton Hydraulic crimper. Unlike others, i found the dies for the 4 AWG cable produced an excellent, strong crimp. I highly recommend this crimper for anyone wanting to make their own battery cables.

Perfect for the occasional crimp.
If I was a professional electrician doing this for a living I would not recommend these. With that said for somebody who makes a few crimps a year or is doing a large solar system you can't go wrong. Plenty of YouTube videos on these if you'd like to see them in action. I personally depend very heavily on reviews that are posted on Amazon, as do many other consumers. I not only read what reviewers say, but look to see what their pictures reveal about a products true quality and description. I aim to not only feature the products I review in many different aspects, analyzing many qualities, I also provide my own opinions on ALL the good AND bad experiences I have with the product I review. I take time to learn and use a product as it was intended before I review it, and I have used this specific product thoroughly. My rating system: 5 - Met all my expectations. Was described and pictured perfectly. Exactly what I wanted and needed. Extremely useful product and a great value. Would recommend to family and friends. 4 - Very good product. Exactly as described. May have a minor flaw, mentioned in the review, that does not detract from the products perceived value. Would recommend to family and friends. 3 - Average product. Not exactly as described, or misleading advertising or product pictures. Possibly substandard build quality, or something else explained in the review. Would mention as an option to family and friends, but not recommend. 2 - Wouldn't recommend this product. Poor build quality, not close to being as described. Flimsy and fragile. Difficult to use due to product flaws. 1 - Do not purchase whatsoever. Usually only given if product lasts only a few hours/days/etc. I do not leave 1 star reviews without contacting the seller. I will be returning the product. I did NOT receive ANY discount for this product. I simply enjoy reviewing every one of my purchases.

Accurate, well made dies. Heavy duty unit.
Heavy duty, rubber handles, head swivels 360ยฐ, good heavy plastic case holds all items. The dies are black oxide finish with easy to read size stamped on side, easy to change out, nicely machined finish. Using this hydraulic compressor requires both hands, would be nice if there was a bench base plate to set it on so you can use one hand to pump it and the other hand to hold the wire & lug in place. There is a built in spring in the piston rod that retracts it fully when valve is opened to release die.

Great price for its Utility!
Return spring on the pump handle is life changing! Dies work well and line up properly. Dies also follow the track on the crimper and don't wobble when crimping. Only thing you may have to do is the die sizeel may not crimp to secure the wire. You will have to step down the dies for proper crimp. I used it for a 4 AWG cable and did a proper crimp. Just step down the dies to make sure the crimp is secure. I also added solder to the termin so it's it well secured and heat shrink the exposed copper wire between the terminal and cable sheathing to reduce corrosion . Well made crimper for the price. I highly recommend!

Works great, good value
Much better than the ratcheting type crimper. Precisely machined dies gives a nicely formed crimp. Needs two hands to make crimps with larger size lugs. Good performance fo the price.

Works like a champ!
This was needed as the builders, as usual, did a total "bare minimum" job installing our deck railing. I've never had to do this before but it's super easy. You WILL need a tool like this to securely fasten the wire to the hardware. If you have this kind of deck railing, having this tool on hand will save you a ton of time and money. I promise you (professional handy-men, go ahead and stop reading now), you do NOT need to pay someone to repair a wire that has come loose. If you can use a tape measure and have any strength to squeeze a grip, this tool will allow you to repair (and even install from the beginning) a wire railing system. Seems very well built and should outlast me. Very pleased with the purchase.

Cable loops for gym equipment
I bought this to crimp gym equipment cables. I am making custom length cables 3/16 or 5mm diameter which includes the plastic jacketing. I opened it up looked at the dies and by eye chose the ones that are marked for 4 guage wire. Lined up the crimp ferrule with the end of the die loop side of cable. I pumped till i started to feel the tension increase then slid the ferrule to the other end repeated and the pumping procedure. The photo is the result of my first attempt, it is quite satisfactory to me. This cable was a piece of excess , I expected to cut the end off and throw away my first attempt but I will use it at some point for something as it came out good. See my other reviews if you want to know what ferrules and loops I used. $39.05 I paid for this tool and I should get my moneys worth out of it in no time. I may try it on wire in the future too. I think people who break it in half might be pumping too hard, it says it can generate 10 tons ( although the cylinder on this is smaller than a 10 ton car jack and I question that claim) I dont see the need to pump the dies against each other or smash what you are working on. Its crimping not crushing.

Dubious quality
I really wasn't expecting to much from this tool, like I wasn't expecting it to be the same as a more expensive name brand hydraulic crimper but I was disappointed all the way round. 1st Whoever in Amazon shopping that thinks it was a good idea to ship a heavy item with just air bags surrounding it give your head a shake. I'm sure that's what cracked the case. 2nd Wire dies as marked (correct size for awg) will not crimp on correctly, you must use one size smaller to get it to crimp. 3rd The dial for the pressure release of hydraulic pressure is incorrectly labeled - it tells you to turn it the wrong way. I returned it and will keep looking for a better unit.
