Saw Set Tool (4-11 TPI) - Made in Japan

This is a good saw tooth setter. It is well built and does the job well.The instructions were all in Japanese, except for a piece of paper with some English instructions that was added in.But the tool is simple to use, and good instructions for setting saw teeth can be found on YouTube.

You want the wood cut width to be slightly wider than the blade to avoid binding. Hence pushing the saw tooth slightly to the side. Setting the saw tooth. This tool does a fine job of setting a saw tooth. Once you have it adjusted each tooth takes 5 or 10 seconds. You typically do every other tooth and then turn the saw around and do the other teeth. Putting a saw flat down on a hard surface (or just regular wear and filing it sharp) can take out the set. This tool restores it very precisely. I can't image trying to get accurate results with a hammer and pin punch. See pictures for further explanation.

Just learning how to sharpen and set saw teeth. Used it on an older saw and seemed to do a good job. Sturdy and well made.

Mine must have been defective. Plunger action had resistance, so the spring was not strong enough to pull it back. Had to pull the handle back manually to open it all the way up. Usually Japanese quality is so good! I returned it.
