Lightweight, sharp, and easy to carry
This knife is lightweight but feels solid in hand. The hawkbill blade with SpyderEdge is extremely sharp and works really well for cutting rope, packaging, and tougher materials. The grip feels secure, and it’s easy to carry without feeling bulky. Great everyday utility knife if you want something dependable and affordable.

Great, Reliable Knife
I work as a zookeeper and this is my go to knife. Durable and very sharp. Can really function at work without it. Great for cutting bales of hay and rope!

Very Nice Surprise!
Although this is a Spyderco, I somewhat expected budget quality at the budget price point for the imported product. That was NOT the case. This is a surprisingly nice quality knife, albeit it's an import. The handle doesn't have the smooth, rounded profile of the US-made models I've ordered, and it has plain oval bumps instead of the textured directional bumps of the American Spyderco, but the handle is easily and securely grasped. I like the "lip" on the handle edges as it makes it even more secure in my fingers than the smooth-edged models. The blade was nicely centered, smooth in operation and had a clean edge profile. The lock is strong and crisp when it locks and has a strong spring tension. The unique tear drop shaped opening hole is quite comfortable and easy to use. I surprisingly like it better than the traditional Spyderco hole because it allows more of my thumb's edge to engage in the hole. More and better jimping on the handle and blade's choil and spine than my older "original" model Delica with the fully serrated GIN steel blade. The clip is cleanly polished and smooth. Now, if the heat treat is up to the same QC as the American Spyderco folders, even this low cost steel ought to make for a great bargain knife. This seems well worth the price point, and then some. Don't be fooled by the low price. It doesn't have the fancy steel or thick handles of the more expensive Spyderco knives, but this is a very handy budget offering.

Not a real Spyderco.
Nice knife for the price but it's not a real Spyderco, it's a copy of a Spyderco knife. It's a Byrd brand knife that's made in China. I still like it and for the price it's a great work knife. I should have known it was not a real Spyderco since I have multiple actual Spyderco's. I have a 2" that cost more than this knife. :) Anyways I'm still satisfied with my purchase. Time will tell if it will stay sharp and or hold up.

Byrd Meadowlark 2 (Hawkbill)
My first Byrd knife I received was a gift from my girlfriend who did purchase it here through Amazon. I returned it to Spyderco for warranty immediately because when it closed, it was touching the liner and handle with the blade. Spyderco sent a return package with a new replacement. Since then, my impressions of this dandy knife are as follows: PROS: -BLADE:Decent working blade made out of 8Cr13MoV just shy of 3 inches so it should be legal for most owners with length restrictions. The Byrd serrations and curved hawkbill blade shape makes for a true hard working knife that can handle anything I put before it. A little stropping on leather will allow the edge to be honed and really shine. (I put only reasonable expectations mind you, not prying nails out of wood and cutting through tires)Keep it oiled once in a while and it should not rust with normal use. -WEIGHT:FRN handles with skeletonized liners keep the weight down for superb EDC at only 2.5 ounces. I placed a paracord lanyard on mine that sticks out of my pocket because I tend to forget it is there. -HANDLE:The handle is ambidextrous with a four way positionable clip which allows personal carry preference. The ergonomics on the handle are beautiful. They allow both a comfortable standard grip, and with the jimped choil on the underside of the blade, it allows the owner to choke up on the handle to handle more delicate tasks. The ability to choke up on a hawkbill styled blade is unique to Byrd because Spyderco does not do this on their hawkbills. This knife looks a little funny with the bi-directional slanted oval texturing but in my honest opinion, it bites well in the hand where you need it to without discomfort and I will go on to say it is better than Spyderco's version. -PRICE: The cost of this knife is very reasonable and should allow any user or collector to be able to afford one. Great job Byrd. CONS: -FIT AND FINISH: Don't expect a beautifully machined product. This knife is rough and the metal frame and handles show it. If it really bothers you, it is nothing a little bit of fine grit sandpaper can't cure. Remember, this is a work knife and it excels in that role. -MODEL NAME DIFFERENCES: The only thing that is confusing with this product is the little oval on the handle that states the name of the model of the knife. Some say HAWKBILL 2,HAWKBILL without a number 2, and other versions that read MEADOWLARK 2. Mine says HAWKBILL only. It just seems like the company is confused where to go with something minor. -PRODUCTION: In order for the costs to stay low, the knife is produced in China which may be hard for some to accept, but the reality is that many of our products are. I recommend this knife for what it does, not for where it came from. In addition, it does not try to copy the namesake of another person or company's design. If you are looking for a nice strong yet lightweight hawkbill, look no further. It's here, it's now, it's awesome.

I normally like basic types of fixed blades
I normally like basic types of fixed blades, even though in my daily, military and outdoors experiences, I have always carried a SAK Camper. But the unique shape of its blade shape (that looks in my mind like a toothy bird or dinosaur skull) and reading about the related Spyderco S-curve blade design piqued my interest. For ~$23 US, I just had to try it myself. What I found was that this knife is of good quality, very compact/light and simply excels at cutting fabric, rope and even narrow vines in the garden. Much better than a conventional straight blade. Build and material are good. Blade was sharp (no rust as some others have reported) and with no play. And it just looks so cool :-) Still, I would not carry this as my primary all-around knife, although someone that needed to regularily cut lots of string or cartons certainly could.

Nicely designed, does the job. A niggle though on the quality of the plastic used for the handle. It's grippy, that's good but it feels more like holding a disposable fork.
