Q: How waterproof is it? Is it just protect your stuff from brief rain waterproof of if I drop it in the lake my stuff will be dry waterproof?

I would not want to drop it in the lake, but it does a great job in everyday weather situations. I've gotten stuck in quite a few down pours and was able to shake off the rain drops. It has worked very well for me. I also have the red color.

hi，it’s a large size, and could hold a 13.3in MacBook. The actual dimensions are 13.39 x 4.33 x 12.99 inches.

Q: Can this be used as your "personal item" on a plane, or is it too large?

It's a good size to use as the "personal item", not too big at all (for domestic flights in the U.S. anyway, not sure about elsewhere). It is similar in size to a bag I used on an international flight to Amsterdam, and on many domestic flights.
