Only one plate is required for the plating process. The Nickle anode is connected to the positive terminal on the power supply and the piece to be plated is connected to the negative terminal. You need an electrolyte to complete the process.

Yes, works very well. To make it shiny, you'll have to polish it after you plate it. Good stuff!

Is it possible to just get a cuttable nickel sheet. Enough that it is magnetic? Not super thick though. Actually as thin a possible.

This is a solid little plate, not optimized for thin sheet work. Contact the manufacturer or look elsewhere for a “foil” type sheet. This is a great anode if you are looking to do electroplating.
