I've read on the reviews that you need to put 1p coin underneath, why do you do that?

It's to balance the pivot. It means when Mr Mouse falls in, it flips backup and stays flat against the other surface ready for the next one....I left detailed explanations on how to set this up a while back and can now report I caught 12 mice across 5 days. So it was worth the 10 mins of minor adaptions.

I bought this item. The trap does not automatically reset as the balance point is not in the right place. Why not?

Because it's cheap rubbish made in China and copied from a good product. I had to glue a bolt in at the weight end to give it enough ballast to close properly.

What is the advantage of buying this Chinese copy? Seems to damage a very small American business....

The advantage is that the American company don't sell their version in the UK so what choice do the UK consumers have?
