BEWARE : NOT ALL WOMEN ARE SUGAR AND SPICE AND EVERYTHING NICE!!!
Excellent and fascinating look at female serial killers all through history including some notorious cases like Mary Belle Gunness, Blanche Taylor Moore, Dorothy Puente, Marie Hilley, and dozens of others. Some of which I had never heard of before prior to reading the book. Mary Belle Gunness was featured on one of the first episodes of the ID show DEADLY WOMEN. Many people in LaPorte, Indiana know exactly what you are talking about by just mentioning her name. She is still notorious there to this day even though she has probably been deceased for more than half a century!

Textbook
It reads very dry and slowly, like a textbook in college. There are a lot of numbers, dates, and statistics while not really revealing much about individual murderesses until much further along.

Another great read . . .
I discovered this book after reading the author's latest, "This is the Zodiac Speaking," which I loved. This book is just as strong and interesting. If you like to read something genuinely new, this is it. I doubt that many Americans are even aware of the number of female serial killers among us. I certainly wasn't. This book covers it all -- the women, their motives, and their crimes. Also, like the author's other book, this one goes outside the box and takes up new possibilities when looking at female serial killers. The typology that is used (something new) is fascinating and seems much more comprehensive than what is usually thrown around in profiling circles. Moreover, it just makes good sense.Don't pass it up.

Good...poor research in places
Most of the information here is accurate however the authors could not resist writing legend about a few of the female serial killers. Bathory being a prime example of this. The book, however, does contain a detailed psychological profile of why women kill and is worth the value just for that. They also mention the primary goals and methods women use. This field is too often ignored due to the myth that men are inherently violent.

Good book, breaks the rules
This is a well written, fascinating book. It re-writes some of the traditional rules of how to define serial murder. Obviously, this has upset some folks. However, the logic of the book is not flawed. Perhaps its time to look at serial murder in a different, more comprehensive way rather than accepting the definitions of individuals/organizations who would minimize this type of crime.

Save your time and money.
This book is a waste of binding. The authors have no evident credentials other than that they frequently write about crime, which is circular logic. Why should you value the opinions expressed in the authors' writing? Because they've expressed their opinions in other writing.Further, whoever edited this thing needs to be brought to justice as badly as any killer the book describes. The same points are reiterated over and over and over again. Sometimes they say the same thing four different ways on a single page, then continue to repeat themselves for the rest of the chapter. This 300 page book could honestly have covered the same quantity of information in a 30 page pamphlet.Do yourself a favor, buy a book written by someone actually qualified to discuss this topic, like former FBI profiler John Douglas. Not only are his insights built on actual investigative and profiling experience, but he and his frequent writing partner, Mark Olshaker, are much better writers as well.
