Well made backpacking trowel for digging cat holes
This trowel was well reviewed by Dan Becker and I thought it would be a nice, light replacement for my homemade aluminum angle iron trowel. This trowel by Bogler is well made and will be easier on my hands with its plastic handle tip. Post 1st use Edit: This trowel works fine in somewhat loose soil with small roots. I haven't tried it in rocky soil but it might struggle there. I think with careful use this trowel will do the job in most conditions I will run into in the Rocky Mountains. First use impressions after 8 day backpack trip: This tool really works well as long as some care is taken. In 8 days of use it shows no wear and is ready for more trips.

A Reliable, Comfortable Trowel Worth Every Penny
This backpacking trowel stands out for its durability and excellent grip, making it far more comfortable and dependable than the cheaper alternatives. While slightly larger than some ultralight options, its lightweight build and ergonomic handle make digging quick and painless—no hand strain, no flimsy feel. It's the perfect size to attach to a pack, and its sturdy design gives you confidence when you need to dig fast without worrying about the tool failing or hurting your hand.

Light, strong. Works like a charm.
Excellent. Ridiculously light, strong if you use it as recommended (pry backwards only, and don’t let your kid use it to open the bear can). I’ve taken it on 2 trips now and it digs and saws through roots like a champ.

A backcountry must!
Amazing product. Light but very capable of making a cat hole in a variety of ground surfaces, fully capable of cutting through roots and such. I would not go into the backcountry without it.

Best backpacking trowel
This is the perfect trowel for digging a hole for backpackers. Super lightweight yet very strong. Easy to use. This trowel has rubber on the top end so you can push into the ground without hurting your hand. All in all, a simple and reliable tool for going to the bathroom in the backcountry. I bring a zip lock bag with 4 supplies. Black zip lock for waste. Couglin TP (lightest). Wipes (both "baby" and "antiseptic". Simple, fast, sanitary. All that's left in the hole is #2. Carry everything else out--one week of waste will easily fit in a quart zip lock. PS. I pee before squatting. TMI?

The best trowel, period.
I've been using this two for over two years and its this simple... This trowel is perfect. It is so light, so easy to use, so easy to clean, able to cut through any dirt/terrain (rocks, roots, you name it and it will make it happen), and the little plastic hilt makes it comfortable to grip. This is literally a no brainer, buy this trowel and don't look back.

Backpacking Trowel
Great quality at a good price. It is light and strong. I like the yellow top so it is easy to find. Also, it great to purchase American made products.

Perfect tool for the job
Waited until I had an opportunity to try it out. Don't bother with anything else, this is exactly what you need. Digs well, cuts roots with the serrated sides, with just enough comfort built in with the plastic tip on the end so you aren't hurting your palm if you have to put some weight into it. For the cost and how incredibly light it is, I wouldn't think twice about recommending it.
