Gain the confidence to get your treadle sewing machine in working order to glide as they should. You will learn about the following, types of mechanisms, cleaning without destroying the gold decals, oiling and lubricating, tension and pressure, installing a leather belt, needles, threading, how to treadle, free motion quilting and embroidery. There is a resource page listing helpful sites. Donna has used treadle sewing machines exclusively since 1993. In 2004 she was a guest with three of the iron beauties on HGTVโs Simply Quilts Show with Alex Anderson. She was then featured in several quilting magazines and has spoken to quilt guilds about her passion. Her home is sprinkled with treadle sewing machines she calls iron ladies and gents, most of them have nicknames. Donna says she thinks she hears them dancing during the night because they were rescued and are now loved. You will meet some of the machines and learn why they got their nicknames. Review: Handy knowledge in compact text - Great little book! Review: Booklet Full Of Tips On Using Our Handed down old ladies - It's well written and very easy to understand and the information given helps keep her running smoothly and that is the part I'm excited about, pictures, diagrams. I have loved mine for years but never worked with it and now I am, the first thing I sew will be making 2 burial shrouds, one for him and for me. That should be easy because I Haven't sewn in years, so that project sounds simple enough ๐ค But if your old lady is just sitting around, buy the book read through it and start preparing her for her job, my Grandma used it for years making clothes for all the boys and 4 girls there was 12 of them, so she had to sew using pretty flour sack for dresses, tops and boys shirts and everyone's underwear. These machinery were work horses and they still are with some loving care. I'm purchasing new belts to replace the old one that replaced 30 yrs ago. It's stiff, but still works, but it is time for an upgrade. I'd happily purchase again and I highly recommend it.

Lovely book, but arrived damaged because of inadequate packaging
This is a useful little book for those of us who would like to maintain our treadles, since treadle sewing machines don't usually have their manuals anymore (if they ever had one). BUT it is quite thin (only 60 pages, but lots of info and diagrams), and Amazon shipped it in one of their plastic bubble-wrap envelopes that was far too big and had no stiffening material. Somewhere along the way, it got crunched, and is nearly unusable, because the angles make the pages hard to turn. I'll try to flatten it out, since I've heard horror stories about returning things to Amazon. I'm giving 0 stars to Amazon and/or the shippers for the state of its arrival, though the book gets 5 for being just what I needed. If I can get it to open so I can read it.
