Is the string that’s included made of plastic or metal

I am not sure which you are asking about but the small string is fabric(woven cord), the wristlet itself is also fabric.

Is clip strong and solid?

The clip is reasonably strong. It holds keys and such well. I’m sure it has a breaking point but I haven’t found it in common use.

Can a phone hang from string for long periods?

I don't know. I did not buy it for that. I certainly wouldn't hang a multi hundred dollar anything form it.
