UPDATE 1 week later: We find that a small tear has appeared. Until today it was not readily obvious to us, but as we sadly discovered, it was readily found -- and used -- by critters. Important to note: we went to extreme measures to protect this cover before, during and after installation. No sharp edges, slow and careful handling. As far as we can tell, just the minor stress of being put in place on the bed frame -- without excess rubbing or movement -- must have created a small tear. In fact it looks kind of the way a run would look in stockings or pantyhose, a few inches long that worked into an actual tear of an inch or so. That kind of hole is all they need. So we are not pleased! I am lowering my previous score because I suddenly need to replace this cover in a hurry, making extra expense and physical effort that we really don't need at the moment. I am leaving it at two stars because, IF you manage to avoid tears, I *think* the case would work okay. It does not smell that I can tel, and it has plenty of room for its intended use. But it just seems too easy to rip, even when you are careful. Below is most of the original review. ======= Not many sources for split queen foundation covers, in the right size. Of those few we opted for Linenspa, and so far we feel it was a very good choice. We're not sure it has been truly tested by bed bugs but it does cut down on dust mites, and by the design we feel confident of protection against almost anything. One big concern when shopping was the fit, and what to do with any excess. Well these encasements fit almost perfectly to the measurements claimed, without stretching or other issues, which was a big relief. The zippers worked okay for us -- we took our time and made sure they were zipped all the way. I do not foresee a lot of laundering -- after all, it is at the bottom of the bed, I can't figure how or why it would get dirty enough to need washing. If we ever do, and there are problems, we might come back and raise or lower the score.

I've never had bedbugs and I plan to keep it that way. I have these on all of the beds in my house. It's a small price to pay for piece of mind and to protect my mattresses from bugs, mites, dust, etc... Way better than the plastic covers I slept on as a bed wetter when I was little :) You definitely need to use these with a padded mattress cover because putting your fitted sheet straight over these is not enough to keep you from sweating. When ordering the "split queen" set, they sent me the incorrect size (a regular queen) but I understand that mistakes happen. It's on its way back and I am going to re-order again.

After getting rid of bed bugs once you will take every precaution to never go through that again. Once the exterminator was finished and the bug killer had settled I bought these for both queen beds (which included the main infested mattress), the box springs, and our soon-to-be-born son's crib. No bugs got back in. We did find a small tear a few months after ridding the house of bugs and I got another one to put on the mattress, but I think it ripped when we moved it on the metal frame. I actually ended up giving my little brother our old bed and box springs with these on it and he was fine with it. They dont just keep out bed bugs, but mites and dust too. I will never own a bed without getting a cover for it ever again.

So far so good. I did not get this for bed bugs, just for peace of mind. It wasn't that hard to put on, I did it myself without my husbands help. I have a lighter ikea mattress. If you have a heavier mattress, you'll need some assistance with it. I've always been leary about mattress covers because my husband and I hate how hot they make you. This one however, is great and does not make the mattress hot. The top of it is like a terry material. And it's soft so it doesn't make any noise at all. I should've got one of these a long time ago, especially when I had a $1,000 mattress that was ruined by my 3 kids! Oh well, you live and you learn. Get this, you won't be disappointed!
