Improve your balance, strength, and overall fitness while enjoying the beauty of Glacier National Park! This dvd has 9 completely different practice sessions, each 8 to 31 minutes long. The practices draw upon the best traditional exercises, tai chi based movements specifically developed to improve balance in older adults, modified yoga poses, and easy dance-based stepping movements. Your balance will be challenged in many different ways to help you move safely with grace and confidence. All movements are taught in mirror image with clear easy-to-follow instructions and demonstrations. All practices are done standing except where indicated. The practices are: Chair-seated practice to gently strengthen your entire body (17 min.) Classic stationary balances performed holding onto a chair for support & seated core-strength work (31 min.) Practical walking balances & dance-based stepping movements to improve your ability to react quickly and improve cardiovascular health, performed using a chair for support (16 min.) More challenging walking & stepping balances, without a chair (18 min.) Leg strength exercises (13 min.) Upper-body seated strength & mobility exercises (12 min.) Lower body stretches (13 min.) Tai Chi easy full-body mobility practice (17 min.) Tai Chi practice with 8 forms, similar to traditional tai chi, but modified to make it easier to learn and to emphasize the balance improving aspects of tai chi (8 min.) Also includes a separate short (3-7 minute) tutorial for learning each of the 8 tai chi forms. Designed and taught by expert instructor Jane Adams. Good balance and a strong body are essential for living an active, independent life and to prevent falls. Jane's goal in producing this was to bring together the most helpful balance & strength exercises for seniors in one affordable dvd. Review: if I did I would have been feeling much better, but was so glad I made this purchase ... - I bought this June of 2017, but left it in it's plastic wrap unopened for quite a while. I was beginning to experience too many aches and pains so around December of that year I opened it up and started doing the first two sets of exercises from the menu, each set being different lengths of time. These two sets were 12 min and 31 min. I regretted not opening it up sooner, if I did I would have been feeling much better, but was so glad I made this purchase and have been doing it quite regularly ever since. I found some exercises too easy until I realized that they were warm ups and that if done correctly they could be quite challenging, and others were challenging and I am still a few months later getting to a point where I can do them or do them better, but the good thing is you are home in your space, and you have the control, all you need is a dvd player a chair, and if you want to use them, some light free weights. I have done all the sets of exercises, only once all at once, now I just pick and choose from the menu according to my time availability and according to my own wishes, but it has given me more ability to move easily , no incidences of my back suddenly going into a spasm, as tends to happen when you get older, which can be debilitating for a few days or a week,, it works all parts f your body, gently and carefully, and I think is one of the best dvds out there I have seen that is probably as good or better than going out to a personal tai chi instructor, they are kind of hard to find. This way I can do it as often as I want and I find I am looking forward to it more than most exercises I have done over the years. It is giving me back my mobility and my stamina, very important if you are getting older and want to continue to have joy in your life. Pain interferes with that greatly, so that even the most positive person can become despondent if they are always feeling some level f pain. This is a gentle way of keeping your body going strong as you age. I have asthma this solves the problem that cardio exercises present, which were leaving me out of breath and exhausted for a day or two as my body would fight to breath, it didn't work for me anymore, but this is my solution and hopefully will continue to allow me to move without pain through my days.. Enjoy if you make this purchase. Review: I actually look forward to doing these workouts! - I never leave reviews but I'm making an exception. This DVD is all you need to assist you in staying active and injury free in your old age! There are an amazing amount of workouts on the DVD and a whole Tai Chi menu. This DVD probably isn't for you if you are 40 years old in great shape. If you're like me, though, a 70 year old in fairly decent shape, it's great. The strength workouts can be adjusted by using heavier arm weights or leg weights. I actually look forward to doing these workouts due to the lovely scenery, relaxing music and the calming narration. I've read that the intensity of workouts isn't as important as doing them regularly. It's easy to fit these 15 minute workouts into any day. I alternate them between upper body strength one day, lower body strength the next and stretching the next. I also try to walk 7000 steps a day. The Tai Chi instructions are also great and I'm working my way slowly through that routine.

Not bad
I like the variety and length of programs because I have RA, fibromyalgia, Hashimoto’s, and sciatica. Some days I can choose to exercise more vigorously and some days I can only do the chair exercises. What I do not like is the long video sections AT THE BEGINNING of the exercise. It should be at the END so I don’t have to fast forward to get through it all.

I'm 78, been a fan of this DVD for years.
I bought this in 2021. All these years, still doing it. I'm now 78. I practice one or more of Jane's DVDs every week. She is the best. But this one is my favorite. You will not believe how much better you'll feel after doing this. All is doable, you'll get stronger with each session. So convenient, morning or evening. I have all of Jane's DVDs. And because of her, my quality of life is improved 100%. If you are older, never exercise, you will be amazed how you'll fitness will improve. Thank you Jane. These are timeless, sensible exercises to improve your body and soul.

BALANCE AND STRENGTH HAS ALREADY IMPROVED AND IT IS ENJOYABLE EXCERCISE!
I really do love this exercise DVD. I am a sad case, 66, back fused T10-S1, and very major surgery on my toes, neuropathy in my feet and torn shoulders. Recovery has really compromised my strength and balance. The reviews encouraged me to give this a try and I actually look forward to it. I have had it now a few weeks and I actually WANT to do it 5-6 days a week! It has an introduction to become familiar with the program, and then it is broken into many 12-31 minute workouts. There is a Tai Chi section and a Yoga section that I haven't even looked at yet! So far I vary my routine among the first five workouts, often doing two in one day. They are well narrated so that they are easy to follow. Jane is just doing the routines and the narration is added in so she isn't speaking while doing the exercises. I don't have to listen to the instructional part now, since I know how to do each movement, but I still have the sound on low. There are lots more routines for me to add in as I progress. I am having to do very minor adaptation because of my limitations, mainly in my foot and ankle, but my limitations are improving already!! I often looked like a drunk, walking along stumbling a bit. From the foot surgery my right foot and leg were quite unstable and weak. I had no confidence in my steps and my ankles shook a bit. Forget about balancing on one foot or the other or getting up and down gracefully from a lower seated position. I see such improvement already. I can stand and balance on one foot to put on pants :), I sat down on a second step to visit with someone and didn't have to get hauled up :), and I feel so much more confident as I walk. I don't have to hang on to bannisters and I'm beginning to be able to pick my way through things like uneven surfaces or stairs out in the open. I am a gardener and I also enjoy mild to moderate hiking so we will see how I am this summer. What I am relating here might make this sound like it is just for basket cases. I really don't think so. I am having a hard time categorizing myself as a senior, but I have definitely earned the physically challenged status. I really wish I'd made the effort to find this a few years back, right after the foot surgery, because I probably would have recovered so much stronger. I can see that this routine would be helpful for anyone just naturally loosing their strength and balance as well as physically impaired folks or seniors just experiencing the natural aging process. My advise TRY IT!!!

Well done video with great instruction
Excellent video loaded with a variety of balance and strengthening segments. I bought this for my fairly active 75 year old mother. As a physical therapist, I wanted to preview the dvd for correct technique and cueing. I was very pleased with the great cueing and careful instruction on correct form and body positioning in each of the sections. This dvd is great for seniors of all ability levels. Jane has incorporated seated strengthening and core work, to stationary balance, to dynamic balance activities demonstrated with and without a chair for upper extremity support. Tai Chi is a great way to improve balance and in often used by therapy professionals to improve the balance of their clients. Jane "teaches" the 8 basic tai chi movements, then has a section to practice the movements, before using the movements in the full body practice. Pleased to see a well done video for this population. I have often seen videos that don't use correct form and can lead to injury. Janes cueing is very clear to help the participant with correct technique. The beautiful outdoor setting is relaxing. Falls are the leading cause of injury in seniors. I highly recommend this video to improve balance and strength, resulting in improved overall mobility and decreasing risk for falls.

I really love this dvd
I really love this dvd. I am just starting out trying to get in shape, The seated exercises are great, I am working toward being able to do the Tai Chi but it will take awhile. However been doing chair, upper body, lower body strength, and lower body stretches every day for last 5 days. Feel every muscle in body moving and stretching. My Fibrmyalgia and RA pain are already better, I feel more mobility everywhere! UPDATE: After doing the seated practice I have been able to incorporate the upper and sometimes lower body strength practices! Felt so great decided to branch out. I tried Chair Dancing for aerobics, caused some back pain so quit that. Then I bought Stronger Seniors DVD that had a 46 minute seated chair stretch workout. Ended up with horrible back spasms and had to go on Muscle Relaxer for3 days to heal from doing that practice one time! I learned my lesson. I will stick with Jane Adams! For first time today was able to do the chair practice but was sweating afterwards. Feel like I am starting all over! But that is okay. I know this DVD will build up my strength and mobility again! I bought her new DVD that has three routines including a chair practice that is a bit longer than this one, but have not received that yet. BOTTOM LINE: If you have severe arthritis or fibromyalgia, stick with Jane, her clear instructions, slow mindful pace, reminders about proper posture, her soothing voice, and the lovely calming music is all you should need! Be careful trying any other DVD's!

More Effective and Enjoyable Than Physical Therapy ...And Cheaper Too!
I'm trying to get back to my "normal" self after an invasive surgery that has taken about a year to recover from. I came upon this DVD quite by accident but thought I would give it a try as I make my way back to a more active lifestyle. I needed something that was going to help me with movement and balance and this DVD was perfect. The instructor has a kind, soothing voice and gives clear instruction. Movements are smooth and slow but still challenging enough to make a difference. I particularly like the tai-chi instruction and plan to learn more to incorporate that practice into my every day life. I would highly recomment this DVD to anyone who has lost some mobility and feels they can't excercise or move as they used to. I have seen such progress over the last 10 days or so that I have been using it. Thanks to the creators of this program for the difference they are making in the lives of older adults.

Excellent!

FUN AND EASY TO FOLLOW. GREAT FOR ALL AGES
FUN AND EASY TO FOLLOW. MOST OF ALL, GREAT FOR ALL AGES. I have been exercising most of my life. However, I have notice that my balance and flexibility has been declining. In 2020, I bought Jane Adams Gentle Yoga from Amazon. LOVE IT. LOVE IT and you will love it too. Anyway, I wanted another tape that will target larger muscles in my body such as my hips, legs and buttocks. After reading the reviews, I bought two more of Jane's dvd. BALANCE AND STRENGTH EXERCUSE and another one. Get yours today.
