12+ Dogs... in Southern Alabama.. Flea Free Kennel
We live in southern Alabama where the fleas and ticks grow to the size of a teacup chihuahua (ok ok there's not a true "teacup" anything, it's just a nice way of saying runt of the litter.)... Anyhow.. the fleas can be a plague around here. With our ever warming winters it often does little to slow them down. We raise and show long hair chihuahua, pomeranian and chow chow dogs. All of which fleas love to snuggle down into that thick fur coat. This shampoo works and smells nice at the same time. We've used it for the past 5yrs now. HOWEVER for those with poor results... if you have a animal with a heavy flea infestation then you may find that you have to wash them more than once. You may find that using Dawn dishwashing liquid as a quick kill as well on heavy infestations. If you have a light colored dog they will attract fleas more so than darker ones, no way around it. If you don't treat your yard/house/kennel or your dog wanders outside of the treated boundaries be prepared to find fleas on them. Does your dog play with others in the neighborhood or do you take them to the dog park... chances are they brought home some uninvited friends. This shampoo kills on contact (after a few minutes, read the instructions)... it's not going to put a invisible shield around your dog that when a flea jumps on them it bounces back off. This kills what is on your dog at time of bath application. I see a lot of LOW star reviews because people don't grasp there is no "invisible" barrier of any sort for pets. There are a number of monthly flea treatments available with or without prescription and they all work with varying degree of success. We've used frontline, advantix and a couple of the really cheap ones over the years and for the past 4 years stuck with Trifexis (vet prescription required). Not cheap, but it works for us. Between treating the yard, maintaining a clean kennel and regular baths in this shampoo, grooming and Trifexis flea treatment every 2 months (yes, we skip a month between the recommended dose... hey I said it isn't cheap!)... we've been a flea free kennel with at least 12 dogs at any given time for the past 4 years.. in southern Alabama.. in the middle of the woods.... where the wild animals that cross our yard daily/nightly are without a doubt have fleas/ticks. Treating your dog is only part of the battle against fleas... and even if you have cement, wood, laminate flooring... fleas will still nest in the corners and against base boards.... CHEAP TRICK: Think you have fleas in a area of your home? Get a lamp with a low wattage bulb /night light, a light colored plate (white works best)... some dawn washing liquid... place the plate on the floor.. add a small amount of water and a couple drops of dish washing liquid to it (mix it up)... shine the light on the plate over night, don't disturb it... check it the next morning.. if you have fleas in that area, chances are you'll find one or two in the plate dead...(may want to check each room with this method)... Mind that you keep the pet away from the area so they don't drink the water. .... if you find fleas.. treat the entire house with something that kills eggs... after 25-30 days .. retreat, even if you see no signs of live ones... the eggs can lay dormant.

USE NO OTHER PRODUCT BUT THIS, ANYTHING ELSE IS A WASTE OF MONEY !!!! PLEASE READ MY STORY
My Cats have always been strickly indoors since they where just little fur ball babies. in the last five years of their life they have never had fleas. but apparently this year in the area i am in has been horrible with the fleas, When We moved into our new place during that process somehow they ended up with fleas, it was incredible how horrifically fast they spread and just take over your pets and consume them with relentless itchy torment, my poor babies where just exhausted from having to deal with the fleas. We had tried so many things, within 3 weeks of them getting the fleas, We tried natural remedies, salting the carpets, Salt and dawn soap bath, A Raid flea spray for your carpet, all these things where pretty much instant temporary fixes, nothing seemed to work, within just a few days my cats where back to the grind of the horrible itching. My male cat was itching so hard he was starting to scratch up his neck pretty bad. I was just at my wits end on what to do, I was afraid of spending money on a product that was just going to be a waste of time. So one day I started looking around searching Amazon and there are a ton of different products, I learned from a lesson to always read the reviews before even pressing the button to buy something. I came across Ovitrol Plus flea and tick shampoo for cats and dogs. I read all the reveiws and after about 100 of them, I never came across one negative feedback everyone seemed to have been going though the same relentless battle on the war to get the fleas out of their home and off their pets. every single person said This shampoo in other words was magic. I really felt good about this so I decided to give it a shot. I had just a week before got both my cats some Advantage 2 for the backs of their necks, but still they where after a week still itching and miserable. So as soon as I received this in the mail which was VERY FAST I tortured my fur babies with their flea shampoo baths..................ONE WORD.......INSTANT MAGIC.....I am not kidding, every single review was spot on, I could NOT believe it. My cats have ceased all itching and are now not just tired and laying around and was instantly back to their loving fun frisky selfs. I also bought A spray as a back up to make 100% sure that they did NOT come back even after this shampoo and its called ( VET-KEM) same product maker, and The main Name is ( SIPHOTROL Plus 2 ) premise spray, its a fast acting formula killing all mature, immature fleas and eggs and ticks within 10 min of spraying.. one can covers 2000 sq ft. I have yet to use this. The shampoo has done its magic, but Im going to spray as I said to just make sure its all gone for good. I highly recommend people buy these two products together !!! It is instant, it is the perfect way to get done what needs to get done. I cannot tell you in any other words how awesome this stuff is. if you want to get down and dirty and not drain your pockets trying to get rid of flea infestations. making you miserable and your pets. THANK YOU TO THE MAKERS OF THIS PRODUCT I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW THANKFUL I AM !!!!!

Best shampoo available
There is nothing I do not like about this product. I have been using it for years and suggest it to everyone I know. I use it on my dogs, first I wash with Dawn and let it sit for about 5 or so min (depending on how dirty/stinky they are) it helps remove any oils they may have in the coat. Then after rinsing that out, I use the Vet Chem shampoo and leave it 10 min and rinse. They are so very clean smelling and the smell on the dogs really lasts a long time. And of course yes it will kill any fleas that may have jumped on them, and also helps to repel them. Absolute wonderful product!!

Wow! Fleas literally jump ship before your eyes!
This shampoo was amazing! As soon as I put a drop on my dog's head, they went running! Definitely follow the directions and start at the neck, work your way down to keep the fleas from heading into the ears. Leave on for 10-15 min if you can (the longer, the better). It smelled very nice and left my dog's coat very soft, not stripped like a lot of flea shampoos tend to do. It definitely killed the fleas and ticks that were present on my dogs at the time. As impressive as it was during the bath, I was slightly disappointed a few days later. The label says that it also repels fleas but within a few days the dogs had fleas again; however, I live in a heavily wooded area and it's impossible to keep the critters off during this time of year so in all reality, it's unfair to expect the shampoo to work THAT well in my situation. In all fairness, if you live in a "normal" neighborhood with neighbors, fenced/trimmed yards and paved suburbia, I think this will work 100% to your satisfaction.

The only brand that I trust
This brand was recommended to me years ago by our vet and is the only brand that has worked throughout the years. It is a staple for our family, one I know I can trust to get the job done and have peace of mind for my animals. This is great for killing the fleas on your animal, it is not a preventative so always use a flea preventative as well. Leaves the coat so so soft and fluffy. Doesn’t have the greatest smell, but it works!

Highly toxic, pesticide product. Beware!
The problem with this product is that It is HIGHLY TOXIC!. There are all kinds of warnings on it, including disposing of clothing etc, that has been in contact with it etc. In my search, I typed in "non-toxic, natural" and, foolishly, I assumed that the products that came up were safe enough, so I bought this one because it seemed to do the job - according to most reviewers, BUT, when it arrived and I checked the ingredients, I was horrified. It is a serious pesticide, and I will NOT use it. I will throw it away. I can't believe something like this will not cause internal harm to an animal. I certainly won't take that risk. I would rather stick to using the herbal shampoos, even if I have to use them often in order to get results. I also give my dogs garlic for a week or so when they have fleas, in some cases it has helped, but it does depend on how infected they are. I certainly cannot recommend this product, as I don't believe it's safe.

Great smell, soft fur. Doesn't kill fleas!
This is a good shampoo for groomed, great smelling cat fur, but not for for getting rid of fleas. I have been washing my cat with this every 7 days very thoroughly with this product, and all the fleas and flea eggs have remained. It says that it kills fleas on contact, but all the fleas that have been falling out are alive and don't die. It would have been better if this shampoo was more effective. Don't buy if you are hoping to get rid of fleas. Works well to maintain healthy looking, great smelling, soft fur for your pet.
