Medium-44L Size: 19.7" * 15.7" * 8". A set contains three 44L Oxford cloth steel frame structure storage boxes, each can be used separately.

can you use vertically? (not stacking though)

If you mean standing them on their sides (side-by-side or in different places), I don't see why not. The metal frames are sturdy. I have my bins stacked three high, and they don't sag or anything like that. If nothing is stacked on top of yours, I don't see how they might be over-burdened.

Can a California king size comforter fit in one of these?

A fluffy king size comforter would probably not fit. Folded sheets would. We use ours to store hats with small brims. Woman's sun hats with large brims do not fit.
