Does this thermostat have a lockout feature where other people can't change the settings? And if it does, is it a 4 pin number or less?

Yes there is a four digit code to lock the screen.

I've watched the video, downloaded the manual, Googled and I still can't separate the back for installation. What's the trick?

The unit has 4 internal tabs that hold it together. I find it easier to separate it using the three tabs on the top of the unit and pushing back on the center tab while holding one of the side tabs. It's a tight fit so it doesn't come apart easily just don't be too brutal with it.

Can this be use with batteries only - i do not have a "C" common wire?

yes, that is how I am using it, I only have 2 wires coming from my boiler. Batteries seem to last a year, I just change them out at the beginning of my heating season.

will this work with a two stage 96 effient gas furnace

Dap, Yes the TX9600TS will operate your 2 stage gas heat furnace. There should be a W1 & W2 wires going to the new TX9600TS if the thermostat is doing the staging. If not then you will have 1 W1 wire and the furnace will do the staging. Lux Technical Support; techsupport@luxproducts.com
