A Must Have for Petrographic Studies of Ceramic Materials!
This book is an EXCELLENT and comprehensive introduction to ceramic petrography. While it begins by going over several methods used in this field of study (XRF, XRD, SEM, etc.) and how to prepare thin sections, it has multiple chapters on thin section analysis of ceramic materials and fabrics including detailed subsections on clay matrix, inclusions, and voids. This text is a must for any graduate level studies on the petrography of archeological materials (whether you’re an archeologist or geologist) and their provenanace. Also, there are numerous high quality color photographs throughout which are great visual aids and well supported by the text. Highly recommend!

A great introduction to the subject
A great introduction to the subject. The list of recommended readings is as valuable as the book itself, though I wish some were a little easier to get a hold of! This is best used in conjunction with a text on optical mineralogy.
