While consuming GMOs by themselves, is not necessarily harmful, the substance of that sentence is misleading. Food grown the conventional agriculture way, is never just “by itself”. It is ALWAYS doused in glyphosate and herbicide, and pesticide. The soil is in fact dead, instead of teeming with beneficial microbes and fungi and other life. Every year more and more and more layers of chemical fertilizer must be applied to maintain production. However, this food is devoid of the mineral content we could expect in our food 50 years ago. I encouraged you to do your research and read unbiased science on these facts, rather than read the articles that are published by people who profit from you thinking that GMOs and the subsequent chemical spray is the best thing ever. Bottom line: the recipes are fun, the info is spot-on, and I sensed no demeaning tone. She is stating the truth because the truth about what’s good for you and what isn’t will nourish your body and baby! Review: Detailed - Detailed and descriptive. Helps you be prepared.

Good recipes with a mixture of ones I wouldn’t try
I was excited to get this cookbook. My husband and I are trying for a baby and I wanted to start early with getting the best food. Some of the recipes in here are on my list to try, others I wouldn’t even bother with..eggplant stackers? No thanks. It’s not bad, but not great. I’m also a picky eater so I’m looking forward to trying some of the recipes in here. I do like the trimester information at the beginning of the book. It doesn’t include photos of every recipe. A few photos are scattered in the book.

Great recipes that have me feeling good!
Every woman goes through different cravings while pregnant, and I think that the negative reviews are coming from women who are sensitive about being told that eating candy and highly processed foods is bad for you when that is all they're craving while pregnant. If you're craving heavy meat and carb dishes during your pregnancy this book may not be for you. But if you're like me and find that your body is craving lighter, healthier meals with little to no meat, this book would be great for you. This is my first pregnancy, I'm at week 16 and 3 days and I cannot bring myself to eat chicken, fish or anything from restaurants bc of how heavy and salty most food is. I *LOVE* some of the recipes in this book which actually have me feeling good after eating! So far my favorites are the Roasted Vegetable Soup, the Arugula Salad and the Vegan Banana Muffins. Although some of the recipes are super quick to make, like the salads and the breakfast recipes, most of the others I've tried require me to make them on a Sunday in preparation for the rest of the week. The roasted vegetable soup recipe makes 2-3 days of lunch/dinner for me (depending how much my hubby has too) and the vegan banana muffins make a great breakfast or snack that lasts about 5 days depending on how much you share :) Trust me, people will want them after they try them - they're the first muffins I've eaten that don't leave me feeling like I have a food coma after - my parents and hubs all love them so I've been making a batch every week. I think this book will have most women feeling their best if they make most of their meals from here. I still eat my processed cookies and the occasional cup noodles that I crave once in a while but for sure the recipes from this book are the reason that I've been feeling good during my pregnancy and motivated enough to work out at home almost every day. Highly recommend giving it a try.

!!NUT ALLERGIES!! + outdated & incomplete food recommendations
It’s not a “week by week” nutrition guide, but a month by month one. The book is written in a cisheterosexist manner that assumes the reader’s gender and also makes binaristic assumptions about the baby’s sex and gender. Most of the recipes are useless for people with common, severe food allergies (like nut allergies) and the recipes offer no substitutions for the common allergens. The nutritional guide about which foods are high in which vitamins and minerals seemed handy until I realized that red meat and poultry contain higher amounts of such vitamins and minerals than most/all of the vegetarian sources but are not even listed and nor are included in the recipes. Cooked fish is recommended by this book, but eating 2 ounces of salmon every other day caused me to have uncontrollable bleeding during my 6th week of pregnancy and both of my doctors told me that pregnant people should actually avoid fish and shellfish entirely not just because of the blood-thinning effect that fatty fish can have, but because seafood is notoriously high in mercury which is especially dangerous to the placenta and the fetus. I will instead be using the free “What to Expect” app to figure out what parts of my baby are especially under development each week, and then doing my own research to find out what nutrition best supports those parts of the body.

Great book
This book has lots of information that is nice to read & follow. It is laid out very nicely. I have tried many recipes & have yet to be disappointed. Even if you are not pregnant I highly recommend this book! I purchased this book October 2023. I am not pregnant & do not plan to be for 1 more year but I wanted to start getting used to making healthier meals & giving my body that love before we begin that journey so it is less daunting when the time comes.
