Earl Grey Supreme, Black Tea, 20 Sachets

I tried Harney & Sons Earl Grey Supreme after wanting something better than the generic grocery store bags, and it genuinely delivered. The bergamot flavor is pronounced and floral without being overpowering, and the black tea base is full-bodied enough to stand up to milk if you take your tea that way. The sachets are generous in size and made from a soft mesh-like material that feels premium and brews cleanly without any paper taste. The tin is a nice touch too. It keeps the sachets fresh and looks good sitting on a counter or in a tea drawer. There is no chemical smell or off notes that you sometimes get with mass-market tea bags. Each cup comes out smooth and aromatic. I have had this alongside Twinings Earl Grey and while both are solid, Harney & Sons has a slightly more complex bergamot profile that feels more refined. The 20-sachet count is a smaller quantity than some options but allows you to try it without committing to a giant box. At the price point it is still good value for what you are getting. This review is for Harney & Sons Earl Grey Supreme in sachets. My go-to tea has always been Earl Grey with bergamot flavoring (mostly Twinings), but after reading and becoming concerned about the large amount of microplastics found in tea bags, I wanted to find a product without this problem. However, trying to find a brand whose information was clear about plastics was difficult. Most were close-mouthed or vague about the topic. When I contacted Harney & Sons, I got a prompt and clear reply, which I'm including below. I ordered some, and found it to be an excellent delicious tea. Their sachets are pretty much like a tea bag except that they are made of a naturally produced material that is shaped into a more open shape, facilitating more room for expansion of the tea leaves and better flow of the water around the tea leaves. The sachets also have a coarser mesh than the typical bag, because the tea they use consists of whole and broken tea leafs, rather than the extra-fine dust-like tea used in the bags. This makes for a great, clear flavor, with no "tea dregs" in the bottom of your cup. I make my tea in a 14oz Yeti container, and increase my brewing time to 6-7 minutes, and with this formula, one sachet is perfect, and does not become bitter in spite of the extra brewing time. Here at our production facility in Millerton, we have made good progress in our transition to replacing our nylon material for our teas packaged in sachets. We're pleased to say as of June 2024 that 95% of our sachets are now using a sugarcane based material. The list of teas that are not using the sugarcane material are: Hot Cinnamon Spice, Decaf Hot Cinnamon Spice, Green Hot Cinnamon Spice, Herbal Hot Cinnamon Spice We are still trying to figure out how to switch these remaining blends over and hope that soon we will be at 100% sugarcane sachet production. So far the new material and cinnamon are not compatible. As for all of the sachet blends, the plant-based material we are using comes from sugarcane grown in Thailand. The sugarcane is fermented and bacteria eats the fermented sugar making lactic acid which is converted into a fiber that creates the mesh that holds in the tea but allows the liquid tea to flow to you. So all sugar is converted and none remains in your sachets material, making it safe for diabetics and those concerned with sugar intake. The sugarcane sachets are compostable, but in full transparency, it will not decompose well in your compost pile out back. This material needs more heat than a home compost pile can provide, in order breed enough bacteria to digest it. We have commissioned a study with the Cary Institute to see if we can solve this problem. While we want to offer this new material for all our sachet teas, it will take some time to get to 100%. Our paper tea bags are compostable, oxygen bleached with a method that does not produce dioxins, there is no epichlorohydrin, PET, or PLA in our paper tea bags. We offer a variety of certified organic teas in them. The tea bags are fastened with a knot in the string, so there is no glue or staple on the tea bag, and they are a great choice if you have any concerns about microplastics.

These teabags feel like soft woven silk. There is no paper or chemical taste after brewing - and the flavor is exceptional. I absolutely LOVE this tea and I am a very picky tea drinker having lived in 12 different countries. This is simply a delight to open, handle, smell, brew, and drink. And what a treat for guests!! Fancy - elegant and yummy!

I bought this tea because I wanted to start making London Fogs at home, and I absolutely love it! The flavor is smooth and rich, and it makes an amazing cup of tea on its own or as a latte. I enjoyed it so much that I’ve already purchased another tin. I’ll definitely keep buying this one.

This tea smells amazing. I just love it. Nice tin and great tea. Will buy from them again.

I know this will enrage people, but it’s hot af in Texas right now, so all of my tea goes over ice. This means I know how to brew it so the flavor sticks. Unfortunately, this was a little lighter than what I was hoping for. It’s very smooth and not as sharp as others, but a little more pricey than others, so this won’t be a regular. When it cools off (January? Idk) I look forward to drinking it hot with sugar and creamer. For now, decent quality, decent price.

Lovely, strong flavor of bergamot. Great product. Delicious without sugar or honey.

My favorite Earl Grey. Never bitter, always fragrant and uplifting. However, I would prefer loose leaf in this tea. It has maybe medium caffeine.

Was excited to try the earl grey but it left me feeling confused. It was tasteless though smelled awesome.

This is luxury Earl Grey. They serve this at La Mamounia in Marrakech, which is where I first tasted it (Churchill used to stay at this fabulous hotel). Back in the UK I ordered two tins, one from Amazon and one direct from the States. Guess which one came first? Wherever you get it from, the fragrance is delicious.
