Review: Ideal camper - Ideal for rucksack camping but can take a while to warm up. Review: Compact Emergency Sleeping Bag for Hiking, Camping, and Survival Kits - I added this emergency sleeping bag to my hiking and camping gear as a lightweight backup item for outdoor adventures and emergency preparedness. I haven’t needed to use it yet, but I like having compact survival gear packed away for extra peace of mind during hiking trips, camping weekends, and road travel. The bivvy folds down small, fits easily inside my backpack, and doesn’t add much extra weight to my gear. I also appreciate that it comes with additional survival accessories like the stuff sack, carabiner, and whistle, which makes it feel like a well-rounded emergency kit item. This seems like a smart addition for hikers, campers, overlanders, and anyone building an emergency or outdoor survival kit. For the size and price, it’s an easy item to keep packed away just in case it’s ever needed.

Piccolossimo
Molto bello, veramente piccolo!!

The review I never wanted to write
You buy emergency gear thinking you’ll never actually have to use it. Last night while hiking a backcountry trail alone, I missed a turn and wound up heading in the wrong direction. By the time I realized my mistake, the sun was about to set and there was no time to double back. I was stuck in a huge boulder field and having found a relatively flat rock with a large boulder behind to have some shelter, I cut some leafy tree branches to make a pad to sleep on and hunkered down in this bivvy for the night. It was by no means a comfortable sleeping arrangement, but the bivvy kept me warm enough that I didn’t spend the entire night shivering. It saved me from a completely miserable experience - bad enough as it was, it could’ve been much worse. It was also comforting to know that if it was to start raining, the bivvy would keep me dry. I learned the hard way that while tucking your head under is nice and warm, the condensation from your breath will make the interior of the bivvy dripping wet. Crying while inside the bivvy also did not help at all. For the rest of the night I kept it wrapped around my head like a hood, leaving a hole for my face, and was still warm enough. This may look like a glorified plastic bag, but it is very tough. I spent all night tossing and turning on my bed of sticks and rocks, and in the morning could only find the tiniest of punctures where I was most rough on it. The tiny punctures didn’t seem to make the bivvy any less effective in keeping me warm. There was no damage at all to the seams. Cheap mylar will tear easily and any holes will run like a cheap pair of stockings. I chose this Tact bivvy because I wanted something tougher, and it was even tougher than I expected. Also, whether you have the orange side out or the reflective side out, it works really well to flag rescuers. I had it attached to the outside of my pack, inside out to dry the condensation off, and SAR was able to spot me easily from the air. I also couldn’t find my Fox whistle and the little one clipped to the stuff sack was surprisingly good. All in all, this >$20 purchase is some of the best money I have ever spent in my life, and everyone should have one in their pack. It’s tiny and weighs nothing and made the single biggest difference during my awful night spent lost in the backcountry.
