Gears run nice a smooth. 08 JKUR Automatic and upsizing to 37” tires. Just installed the gears running as smooth as OEM. Still have to stock 32” tires for the moment, but 5.13 was the right decision.

I am trying to install a set of Yukon gears in a Jeep 35 rear. The problem is they no longer give us a pinion depth! I called to ask about it and they said it was a 'warranty' issue, people wouldn't go by the gear pattern! They actually give you a shim spec for the pinion, irregardless of what the original gears had. They give you backlash and you check with gear pattern. So here it is, this is what you have to do: Salvage or buy an extra pinion big bearing and hone it to slip fit, install pinion shim to their spec and install pinion to proper preload. Set carrier in place and shim it to the proper backlash as on the ring gear ( .006ish), then you apply gear grease and check the pattern. If the pattern is off then pull the carrier, remove the pinion and replace shim to change the depth, reinstall pinion to preload, reinstall carrier and reshim until you get back to .006 (you changed the pinion depth so your other shimming won't work) and then reapply grease to check pattern. Repeat steps until you get the right pattern. Now you have to take everything all back apart and press the proper pinion bearings onto the pinion and then do the final assembly! When I do Richmond etc they give me a pinion depth, the man that hobbs the gears in writes it on pinion, I assemble pinion with slip fit bearing, install it and measure the depth, pull it out and add shims for proper depth, check it and pull it out to press bearings etc and reinstall to proper preload - then that is all done! All I do now is set backlash on the carrier. If you measured everything proper when you apply the grease you'll have the prettiest pattern as confirmation. Yukon gear is a bunch of Bitches more interested in covering theirs asses, the instructions are vague and generic worded so that when your gears start howling coming down a hill they'll have an 'out' when it comes to warranty. I love their shim packs but I'll never install another set of their gears.

This job isn't for the faint at heart. That being said, everything about this job that sucks has to do with disassembly. Finding the correct tools, stuck parts, seized bearings, etc. Assembly was awesome. This set includes everything required and then some. Two sets of ring gear bolts for both front and rear to cover two different sizes, plenty of loctite, black RTV, yellow gear pattern layout paint, two crush sleeves for each front and rear seats, Timken bearings, a ton of shims, and plenty of decals to finish the job. I had good patterns front and rear with little to no adjustment. Get a 2 gallon jug of oil, that'll cover both ends as well as an oil change after break-in. As for ratio, I couldn't be happier. 4:10 is too high for 3.8 auto, 5:38 pulls way better and I still tach 2300 or so at 60mph with 33s. As for mileage, I feel it will stay the same if not improve by preventing low RPM lugging of the engine with insufficient torque. My trip computer is showing improvement if that means anything to you. I used OBDJscan to program gear ratio and tire size, speedo is dead on with my phone GPS. Go to the Yukon website for more updated bolt torque info than is provided in the leaflet. Good luck, happy Jeeping. See you on the trails! Update 10/5/22 I've been running this set for a few months now and have had zero issues. I changed the oil out after initial break-in and inspected the gears, and looked for bearing debris in the case, oil was dark with the expected goo-like filings around the magnet. No large or shiny bits at all. Gears and bearings are quiet. Fuel mileage has decreased slightly in town, haven't put enough highway miles on to say about highway mileage. Hoping to get 35" tires soon so that will play a huge part in the equation.

Great gear set, all you need to change, rubbers, seals etc are included. I'v been modifying my jeep, and I put 33" X 12.5" tires, which made the jeep kind of slow, or low response. The original 3.07 gear ratio for my automatic transmision 2005 TJ Wrangler X needed an upgrade, I really thought of it until I finally decided to do it. You really feel the performance, before, when i was at high speed driving at 4th gear, in large low angle hills in highway, eventually the jeep would switch to 3rd as the 4rth couldn't keep with the speed (110 km/hr), that kept me crazy, with this, new gear you even can accelerate without the need of switching to 3rd. definitely a must if you have an automatic transmission stock jeep with 33's tires.
