Surprisingly great machine! Recommend highly!
I bought this for my 7-year old daughter for school work. Coming from a Mac/iOS background I was sceptical but having a real aversion for all things Microsoft, I thought Iโd give a Chromebook a try. And Iโve got to say, itโs brilliant!Itโs pretty close to the Mac experience we are used to, far far more intuitive than Windows. The screen is great quality for a sub-ยฃ200 machine & despite what a few reviewers have said, it IS A TOUCHSCREEN so it works like an iPad which is wonderful. And because the screen is Matt, finger marks arenโt an issue either. Another nice trick is that the keyboard & screen hinge can completely bend backwards on itself giving you a tablet/iPad type experience - great for watching movies on iPlayer, Netflix or Amazon Prime.Storage is more than adequate given that itโs mostly stored in the cloud anyway. The machine is fast, start up times are really good too. And the full keyboard & touchpad really make this feel like a proper, much more expensive laptop.Given that I was very sceptical of Chrome OS at first, Iโm happy to say that I was wrong and this is a fantastic little laptop well worth every penny!

So good I've bought one for the wife
Cheap as chips, but good enough to run anything I've thrown at it so far including Prime, Netflix, BBC Iplayer & Ebay. Link it up with a mobile phone and you can use it to browse the net and such like away from a conventional wireless web connection. But be aware it doesn't come with 4 or 5gBuild quality is good considering the price and I love the way you can use it as a tablet with the screen being super responsive. One little miff was the fact it's advertised as coming with a USI stylus, but to be honest you don't really need it a sharpened stick will do the job just as well on this touchscreen and the trouble with a USI stylus is you only ever lose the darn things, a sharpened stick as I said works just as well ๐I personally own many other machines including an all singing and dancing desktop, but went for this as I wanted something I could just have beside me when watching TV and my Galaxy Tab8 died a painful death recently. This replaces that perfectly! The Chrome OS is fairly intuitive and very easy to find your way around The memory and hard drive space is adequate, if you need more space chuck a cheap Micro SD card in it. But if like me most of your files are uploaded to the cloud you it won't be a problem. Google gives you free access to 100GB storage free for a year as part of the bargain and there are plenty of other places on the web you can store files for free should you find the need. I've tried to play a few games downloaded from the play store and they function just fine ie. Candy Crush, Subway Surfers et al.So all in all my conclusion is seeing as it cheap as chips, comes from a reputable manufacturer who are offering a 3 year warranty on the machine, 1 year on the battery what's to dislike. If you want a good tablet with a good keyboard and want to watch films, surf the net, check your social media etc this is perfect. If you want a all singing and dancing play anything games machine buy a high end desktop/laptop.As I said I'm impressed enough to have ordered one for the wife as she's been struggling with a year old cheap ยฃ100 Android Chinese tablet, this machine knocks that hunk of junk clean out the window and I know she'll be happy as she's been coveting my Asus since it's arrived and trust me she's not a easy woman to please!

Impulse buy that has worked out extremely well
Nice compact Chromebook very sturdy with good speed, screen quality and sensitive touchscreen. This is my first chromebook and was purchased to act as a supplementary device to my big Windows laptop which isn't as portable as it could be. The Asus has proved excellent for what I want and I am extremely happy with it. The only drawback is that my WiFi printer is a touch archaic and not on Chromebooks list of supported printers so connecting to it isn't working. However for me that's a minor issue and the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. An excellent purchase.

An inexpensive Chromebook that exceeded expectations
I bought this Chromebook in December 2021, when it was at a discounted price on Amazon, and have been using it almost everday for the last 4 months. I had an HP Chromebook a few years ago and ended up selling it on as I found it a frustrating and limited device. Well, I'm happy to say that Chrome OS has come a long way since then and this little Asus is a nice handy device to have.If you are thinking of buying this please remember that Chrome OS is not meant to be a like-for-like replacement for Windows or MacOS. It's still heavily a web-based experience and you won't be able to run really heavy applications on this Asus. As long as you reaise that, then I don't think you'll be disappointed with this little laptop.I treat it mostly like I would treat a tablet - with the great addition of a decent keyboard and trackpad. So, watching streaming media, browsing the web, YouTube, checking social media, using emails all works great. In addition, it works really well as a casting device to send video to my TV via a Google Chromecast dongle.I've found the battery life is impressive too, easily seeing me through several hours use in a day (although I have found that streaming a movie to the Chromecast does hit the Asus battery quite hard). Charging time is pretty quick too with the supplied USB-C charger. The touchscreen is pretty good. There is a version of this Asus that comes with a stylus - but I don't have that. I've found the ability to flip the screen into a 'tent-like' configuration over handy when watching videos on the laptop. The speakers are OK and loud enough - unsurprisingly they won't win any hi-fi awards but they do the job nonetheless. The onboard webcam is equally OK, as are the microphones. Adequate for a video call in decent light but I would invest in a USB webcam for anything more demanding. I have not tried the second camera for photos - however I wouldn't expect much and will probably never use this to take photos in preference to my phone. If you have an Android phone, this Chromebook easily links to it and makes sharing photos/videos/music very simple. It can also read and show SMS texts and Whatsapp messages. There is a web store for Chrome OS apps and also access to the Google Play store to install familiar Android apps which is very useful. There isn't much on board memory, but there is a micro SD card slot to which I have added a further 64Gb of storage space for under ยฃ10.Performance-wise, the wake time from the sleep state the device goes into when you close the lid is almost instantaneous. i rarely ever shut it down fully as keeping it in a sleep-state does not seem to drain the battery much. All the apps load and run snapily and it doesn't ever seem sluggish to me. I cannot comment on using this Asus for gaming (I don't do that at all), but I would think you'd need a significant step up in CPU and graphics performance to do that kind of thing and that this Asus would not be for you.In summary, this Asus Chromebook has been a joy to use. My Windows laptop now sits idle most of the time as I find this little Chromebook ticks the boxes for my normal daily needs.

Great value little machine
I bought this as a budget option as I wanted something that I could use with Google docs for word processing across a few different devices. This is my first Chromebook and Iโm impressed at how much you get for the money. The device boots up quickly and is extremely responsive. The touchscreen is handy but I find the touchpad nice and easy to use, too.Although the keyboard layout is a little different to what Iโm used to the keys are great and make it easy to type. The battery has been more than ample for what I need and it tolerates my daughter watching hours of YouTube without an issue.Very happy with my purchase and I almost regret not buying it sooner. Would potentially consider buying a second one for my daughter who currently has a Fire tablet - the tablet is slow and hard to work with so this would be a big improvement.

Not worth it
Bought 2 of these for my girls to use, battery life didn't last long both touchscreens stopped working and 1 of them doesn't turn on! 1 I bought in December and the other in may as initially the 1st Chromebook was going well, so on that basis we bought another 1 but both have stopped working ! Contacted seller which in all honesty wasn't very helpful and told us to contact Asus and Asus have so far been very difficult to deal with!! So I'm still waiting for something to get sorted and have 2 girls without their Chromebook. I would advise go to the shop on the high street and get 1 from there rather than getting 1 off Amazon, least you'd have someone to take it to!!

This is not the chromebook pictured!
I received the C214M, NOT the C214MA.The C214M has NO stylus, unlike the C214MA which is the version with the stylus.I bought it as I wanted a chromebook with a stylus - and I've used the C214MA at work and was impressed. However, the pictured chromebook was not shipped, so it has now been returned.Shame as the C214MA is a great little device!

Excellent budget chromebook.
Lets begin by saying im a huge chromebook fan. When my last Asus stopped receiving updates after about 8 years of constant use, I decided to replace it with a newer model. This one is fantastic value for money handles everything i need in a chromebook with ease. Don't let the cheap price put you off. It's solid, fast, lightweight and feels well made. I'm no computer geek and just need to be able to do the usual online stuff(youtube, online shopping, browsing etc. This one is more than capable of doing all of those with ease. Flip the screen over and it feels and acts like a giant ipad. The battery life is awsome and the touch screen is responsive. If like me you are on a budget but need a decent laptop, give this one a bash... in my opinion its worth every penny.
