HOUSE M.D (The Complete Series) The series follows the life of anti-social, pain killer addict, witty and arrogant medical doctor Gregory House with only half a muscle in his right leg. He and his team of medical doctors try to cure complex and rare diseases from very ill ordinary people in the United States of America.

House MD Blu-Ray
This review is purely about the blu ray quality and packaging, because House has been around for a number of years so most people will know if they like the show or not.So, it comes in a fairly large box that, when the lid is removed, contains all 8 seasons. They cases have completely different covers/pictures to the DVD versions and each case is fairly chunky (about 2 or 3 times standard blu ray cases). The discs are in flip trays. Only fault is that the cases don't close properly. If you attempt to close the case normally it gets to about halfway closed but then gets stuck and a clicking sound occurs. It's fairly hard to explain but you sort of have to squeeze the top and bottom in at the same time then close. Only a minor problem though, everything else is of really high quality. In terms of the actual discs then, one of the major complaints about the DVD's was that they never had no subtitles for seasons 1-6. I played this set on a playstation 3 and subtitles were available in numerous languages. The menu's are all very nice, only complaint is that when you get to the main menu they use icons i.e there's a house icon that takes you back home, a book which is scene select etc). It's a bit confusing as to what all these icons mean at first, text would have been better. Although I can't go into technical details, the discs look so much better in blu ray. I remember on TV the colour of the older episodes was horrible - but here it is clear and crisp and much more colourful. It becomes especially obvious when the camera zooms into the body, and you can see the blood cells travelling round the body. Sound seems good too.Personally, I rate House as one of the best shows ever so this was a no brainer for me to get. So far this set hasn't disappointed, and I'm looking forward to watching this great series all over again. When you consider that most new TV shows are available on amazon for around £20-£30 a series, this set represent fairly good value for money too IMO. As mentioned in the comments though it is available for £3 cheaper elsewhere.

Fantastic Blu-Ray Set - Cut Back, With a few minor flaws
I wanted to clear up a little confusion, as clearly this set has been reissued a number of times over the years so some reviews are “out of date” - this review is of the set I received in March 2025, the black box version - some pictures show the white box edition which has each season individually packaged - the black version saves on packing by just using two large DVD cases (pictured next to standard blu-ray) - this is convenient for storage but not the best looking, and occasionally fiddly getting disks in and out, as some disks are piled 2 on one peg.The first negative people always talk about is the legal stuff at the end of every episode - THIS IS NO LONGER AN ISSUE, they’ve put the legal stuff at the start, before you get to the menu, so all you have at the end is the studios logos which takes 5 seconds max, and it moves to the next episode, so no long wait between episodes as of 2025.The second negative is the fact that the current version has the Singapore theme tune for every episode for all 8 seasons. If anyone is unfamiliar with this, there was an original piece of music made as the House.M.D theme for season 1 - but this was quickly replaced by “Teardrop” by Massive Attack while broadcast. A third which was composed by someone working at the studio - is often referred to as the “Singapore” version. It’s okay, I do miss that brilliant Massive Attack intro - but I bought this set for the episodes and they deliver. The third and final negative is that all special features are previously released, and this lacks the feel of a premium set - but again, it’s the episodes I care about. I’m unsure if this is the case for DVD, but for the Blu-Ray version, they manage 5 episodes per disk (Season 4 has one disk with the 2 part finale as it was a shortened season).Other than that I have no complaints - the box looks nice enough and I enjoy re-watching these. The premise is great “Sherlock Holmes, but he’s a doctor” - Hugh Laurie excels in this fast paced and constantly changing drama - you’d think a series in which the characters endlessly mention complex medical conditions and tests would bore the average audience but - it lasted 8 seasons so that should answer that. I’m a medical man and I enjoy guessing at what’s wrong, they often give a clue that’s very easy to miss - so I feel quite proud of myself when I accurately diagnose these fictional patients!Hugh Laurie particularly stands out in this role, he plays perfectly the brilliant genius Doctor, so afraid to make human connections and in so much pain, he sells you and he sells you fast. The shows humour and drama are perfectly balanced, this series will make you laugh, it will make you cry - so prepare for both, and enjoy!Have no fear!Edit - April 2025I had a minor glitch on a disk, nothing serious just pixelation - no audio issue.I should say the reason I decided to buy this on Blu-Ray is because I bought each season on DVD years back (when season 8 was still airing!), and the video quality of the original DVD releases are appallingly bad - I remember Season one sticking out but I figured “it’s new, why wouldn’t it be bad?” Season 2 was better but then it seemed to be hit and miss - with the worst example being Season 7 - where I’d gone from brilliant quality from season 6, to distractingly bad for season 7 to the point I thought my copy was a fake DVD - it was like trying to watch it on a 2000’s phone. So I was intrigued to see how the episodes were remastered and upscaled to Blu-Ray HD quality - I wasn’t looking for 4K HD I just wanted a consistency and good quality - and I was not disappointed, even season 1 which I remember notoriously as almost looking black and white on its DVD - beautiful clarity, proper colour saturation and brilliant HD.So if you’re considering this - I recommend the Blu-Ray over the DVD any day. It may be cut back a little, it’s less packing and it’s fiddly at times with 2 disks on one peg, but one you fire it up - the episodes are perfect and triggered a lovely binge. But don’t just take my word for it - ‘everybody lies’ - so see for yourself!
