The Ex: An unputdownable psychological thriller with a heartstopping twist

As with all of her books I couldn't put this down, always unexpected twists inbher stories

This thriller was engaging throughout and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. There is a major twist in the second half of this book, but I almost felt like it wasn’t needed, as the story was suspenseful and an engrossing read even without this. It also made the story a lot more complicated to follow and I questioned what I had read previously, whether I had missed anything and whether all the loose ends were tied up. However, everything I could remember was neatly tied up, although I may have missed something that wasn’t! Overall, though it was different from other thrillers I have read and a clever idea with how it played out.

The Ex, is a domestic thriller by Freida McFadden. I have enjoyed a lot of her novels recently, but unfortunately I didn’t get the same satisfaction from this one. Cassie believes she’s finally found her happily ever after. Joel is everything she’s ever wanted: charming, attentive, and utterly devoted. Their relationship seems picture-perfect, until the shadow of Joel’s ex-girlfriend, Francesca, begins to loom over everything. Francesca is beautiful, successful, and adored by everyone who’s ever met her. She’s supposed to be out of the picture, but Cassie can’t shake the feeling that she’s still around… watching. I suppose you can’t please everyone all the time and I know many readers disagree with my rating for this one. I didn’t think it was an awful read, just not reaching the highs of many of the previous novels.

That twist was very good although it was confusing trying to figure out the different timelines. Would definitely recommend this.

I really enjoyed the book, but I found the last few chapters to be quite confusing. I thought I'd missed a chapter, so I backtracked, but I hadn't missed a chapter. I had to keep re-reading the pages to grasp what was happening. Maybe a case of the author trying too hard to come up with a dramatic twist?

Great read! Kept me on the edge of my seat!

With Freida's Books, you can never know who is really talking, and how much their opinion is biased. Prépare for a cascade of chilling surprises in the last 50 pages.... Because this one is very oppressive & oppressive...

A little bit slow pacing at the beginning but has some great twists and turns as the story progresses along.

By far one of the best Freida McFadden books I’ve read! Great characters and the plot twist was fantastic! Made me want to reread the whole book (which I did!).
