How soon can I etch after degreasing if I use a squeegee to dry?

My situation is a bit different as i was trying to figure out whether to completely remove their coating I put on 10 years ago or just clean it and reapply. I searched all over the internet looking for the answer without much luck. So I went on their website and filled out a my question. Several days later here is the answer I got.

You can apply the EpoxyShield over a previously painted floor, but you do need to make sure that the coating that is on the floor is adhering well. Any loose or flaking paint will definitely have to be removed. You also would want to test the adhesion of the paint to ensure that it is bonded well with the concrete. To test the adhesion of the remaining paint on the surface, do the following:

1. With a single-edged razor blade, cut an X through the coating and down to the concrete.

2. Apply a 4” piece of duct tape over the X and press firmly

3. Completely remove the tape with one quick pull.

4. If more than 25% of the taped area is removed with tape, the original coating is not adhering well, and the floor should not be coated with EPOXYShield unless all previous paint is removed.

If your floor passes the adhesion test, you can apply the EpoxyShield over it, but you would want to rough up the surface lightly with a 60-80 grit sandpaper and a pole sander/drywall sander. Then clean up the sanding residue and you should be able to apply the EpoxyShield over it.

Another method that does not require sanding is the use of our Garage and Concrete Primer. You will need to clean the surface with a good cleaner/degreaser such as our Epoxy Shield Heavy Duty Degreaser. Once the floor is clean and dry, apply a coat of the primer over the previous coat of Epoxy Shield with a ¼” nap roller. You can apply your new coat of Epoxy shield after the floor has dried 24-48 hours and the primer has turned a semi-transparent gray. NOTE: If you are applying this product over a previously painted floor you will NOT be using the cleaning and etching solution provided in the kit.

Can this be used in non commercial pressure washer?

Used it with manual pump sprayer, although a 2 gallon watering can id fine

Does this have a strong odor?

Depends on how dirty the surface is. It has a reaction which removes the dirt/oil which gives off a smell. I’d suggest working with the garage door open or an industrial fan regardless. Odor doesn’t linger long.

Would this be effective for cleaning asphalt?

Yes, it does work if used properly. I purchased this for my concrete back patio.I recommend purchasing Unger Professional HydroPower Bi-Level Scrub Brush, 10" if you are going to use with a brush
