It does work...
It’s really a 4.5 stars in my mind, but I’ll give it a five. It does what it does - vibrates the bridge to simulate playing in. I’m playing on a stubborn cello and using this for a couple of weeks DID help tame it some. I left it on for well over a month and didn’t feel much progress after the initial couple of weeks. I did belatedly realize that it is also using up string life, and at the price of cello strings I’m sorry I left it on sooo long.Anyway I discovered that I could use it on my child’s 1/4 size cello, and even got it on my viola, so while I think it’s overpriced, I realize it’s a nitch product and I’m getting good use from it.The tone it imparts is related to the pitch it operates at, but short of hiring YoYo Ma to play it in (!) I think it’s a valid solution.FYI I had further success taming the beast by switching from metal strings ( even Evah Golds) to Dominants. Now it’s pretty nice to play on. Yay.

It works - bigger voice, clearer voice, fuller, rounder and more resonance
Pleasantly surprised that it works on our 2 full-sized mid range student cellos (a Eurostring M700, and a Jay Haide L'Ancienne Strad). Both use Spirocore Tungsten C & G, and Larsen Soloist D & A strings.Gave this device a 4 star, because it is relatively expensive, especially for the cello (and double-bass) versions, and seemed to work better on newer instruments. The ToneRite worked on my relatively new cellos. My teacher tested this device on his newer and older cellos as well. He found that it worked on his newer instruments, but did not show much result on his older instruments. This is consistent with the experience of other cellists regarding the ToneRite.Eurostring M700 (purchased brand new by previously owner in 2012)The Eurostring M700 was purchased second-hand from an amateur orchestra player, which has had 10-years of seasoning. After several months of minimal use and after a 3-week summer holiday, both my daughter and I realised the cello did not sound as sweet or clear, and definitely less full than previously. Overall, the cello sounded 'closed', as some would say, it had 'fallen asleep'.After 72 hours of continuous use of the ToneRite on the M700 cello, we noticed that the overall sound of the cello sounded louder, clearer and resonated more . The body of the cello seemed to vibrate more. This is not a high-end cello, we cannot expect this device to make it sound like the greats. However, for a mid-range student cello, I am pleased with the improved sound quality and projection, and it certainly increases our enjoyment of playing.Jay Haide L'Ancienne (made in 2016)This was a brand new cello, which sounded nice straight out of the gate, and was hand-picked by my cello teacher. The sound had not yet 'opened up' and requires a lot more ‘breaking-in’.After 72 hours of 'ToneRite treatment', my Jay Haide L’Ancienne cello sounded louder, clearer, fuller, rounder with beautiful overtones. I could feel the body of the cello vibrate more with greater resonance. It was always a pleasure to play, and now it sounds even better. Even my teacher noticed the improvement in the resonance and the complex overtones, the strings seemed to sing on and on.Unfortunately, the full size ToneRite did nothing for our child's 1/4 size cello. I cannot fault ToneRite, since the standard cello version is not designed for fractional cellos. The side prongs of the ToneRite did not touch the 1/4 size bridge, and my guess is that the 1/4 cello was unable to receive the full vibrations from this device.I am not affiliated in any way with ToneRite, but I want to share my honest opinion based on my experience so you can make an informed decision. This device has proven to be a great investment (it worked on our 2 full-sized (relatively new) cellos. I know that we will get a lot of use out of it. I wish it was a bit cheaper. For us, this device was worth it.
