Brilliant budget-friendly runner's watch
This is my third Garmin. I bought it to replace my Garmin Vivoactive 3 after it started having reliability issues. I'm really impressed - has all the functions I need for running and working with the Garmin coach plans. It's lightweight and not too big for my scrawny wrists - I didn't like the plastic strap but it was easy to replace with a cheap fabric strap (there are loads available on Amazon). The photo shows it during a Garmin coach "easy run" where I was trying to keep to around 7.30 per Km pace. You can see that it tells me the time left on that leg of the run, the distance run (at the bottom) and (at the top) how well I'm sticking to my target pace (the green zone). It gives me a warning when I get too far from my target pace. Good for people like me who tend to run too fast on the easy runs and also really useful for goal pace repeats and time trials.I'm mostly interesting in running and don't use any of the phone notification smart features so won't comment on those (I turned them all off) but it's ideal for what I need. I'd highly recommend for budget-conscious runners and it would be especially good for people new to running who want to use the Garmin app's built in training plans (up to half marathon) but don't want to spend a fortune on a higher end watch. The Garmin Connect app is user friendly and I had no problems setting up the new watch over Bluetooth. Fantastic watch for the price.

Budget-friendly GPS running watch
I've had the Garmin Forerunner 55 for a little over 2 months at the time of writing this review. I purchased to replace a higher end smart device from a few years back (Huawei GT 2 PRO) which had compatibility issues with IOS and poor GPS tracking. I wanted something lightweight, comfortable and easy to use while running.Whether you're running on the road or hitting the trails, the watch provides reliable and precise tracking of your distance, pace, and route. This is essential for tracking your progress and analysing your runs.It includes a heart rate monitor, allowing you to keep an eye on your heart rate during your workouts.impressive battery stating up to two weeks in smartwatch mode and up to 20 hours in GPS mode - I've not scientifically tested but I've been getting a good week and a half or so with regular 6-10k runs in.Sleep tracking also feels accurate when reviewing the data in the app vs how I feel that day. Its nice to be able to keep a track of hours slept/recovery.The Garmin connect app is also the best I've used with lots of insightful data from step tracking, heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, body battery & setting running plans. You can also sign up to challenges and earn badges which adds a nice competitiveness if you have friends/family on the same platform. My personal favourite feature is having a physical start stop button - its a simple one but being able to hit start/stop when getting to a road junction and it working every time vs my old touch screen watch is really nice. Also helps with accuracy of running times.Overall, the Garmin Forerunner 55 is an excellent GPS running watch for those who are looking for a reliable and affordable device to track their runs. With its accurate GPS tracking, heart rate monitoring, customizable display, and extensive training features, it provides all the essential tools to help you reach your running goals. While it may lack some advanced smartwatch features, its impressive battery life and user-friendly interface make it a solid choice for runners of all levels.

Excellent
I was previously a fitbit user but I've been converted. The watch interface is better, the app is more expansive and detailed and there is not a paywall for certain key features, the GPS component is excellent, its battery life is HUGE in comparison (i only need to charge it once ever 2 weeks, if that!). The only things I can critisize at all are the sleep tracker. (In the evening, if I sit still, lay down or read a book for a few minutes it thinks I've fallen asleep and it's terrible at recognising when I wake up in the night and the next morning. But, that can be manually amended so, not a deal breaker.) And the wrist band isnt that comfirtable in my opinion. I never had issues with my previous rubber watch stap, but the one supplied with my Garmin isnt the most comfortable (the holes going all the way around the band are the issue, a solid strap would be better). This is just a preference thing though and I'm sure I can find an alternative strap design that will be more comfortable for me.Overall, I'm converted. Why did I ever buy a Fitbit? I've been missing out on so much.

Brilliant - I love this watch
I couldn’t be happier with this product. It’s been a part of every day for the last three months.Having gotten back into training and physical fitness, this watch has been brilliant. It really keeps me motivated and gives me some good insights into watch I’m doing.Garmin app works brilliantly and syncs data quickly. It also connects to other fitness apps I’m using so I can collate and see my data together. The watch itself is compact and easy to use. You really can’t go too far wrong if you’re looking for something to track steps, sleep, heart rate, calories and your exercise whether that be running, treadmill, swimming etc. I charge this once a week and set recordings for events lately at a minimum for 5 days for week. For me this was a good priced smart watch for the functions.I would’ve liked a resistance/weight training recording option but I choose other for this. For my first smart watch this has been a winner.I will definitely go for a higher ranged garmin product in a few years but for now this is a very good starting point. It’s brilliant. The only thing which I would say, is I’m not sure how accurate the sleep recording is. On a couple of occasions I’ve noticed that I’m asleep according the watch data, when in fact I have been awake.Overall, if you’re looking for a starter fitness watch or buying your first, I’d recommend this to you.

Great fitness device
I am really pleased with this purchase. Very reasonably priced for the type of device. I really like Garmin and the Garmin app from previously owning a vivoactive 3 which gave up after a good few years of use. The forerunner 55 suits my needs better than the vivoactive in that it is button operated rather than touch screen. I often lost activities with the vivoactive dueSee to a coat or running jacket operating the screen. The forerunner 55 is a much more definite function operation which I really like. I've used the watch for hiking and running so far and it's been brilliant regarding information, GPS tracking, linking to Strava, etc. The battery life between charges seems very good so far. I also really like the fact you need to push a button to illuminated the watch rather than it light up on movement as the vivoactive did. The watch still lights up when lifting to view during an activity which is perfect for me. I have also started using Garmin coach for a running aim and this is a brilliant motivator as well as stopping me overtraining which I have done in the past.Thoroughly recommend Garmin and this device for ease of use, practicality, toughness, training options and how it looks.

Perfect fitness watch
The Garmin Forerunner 55 is an excellent fitness watch, especially for active users who want reliable tracking and easy smartphone connectivity. It delivers accurate GPS performance, great battery life, and a range of features that make it a solid choice for sports enthusiasts. My son, who is passionate about swimming and sports, loves using this watch to track his activity. It provides detailed insights into workouts, heart rate, and performance metrics, helping him stay on top of his training. The lightweight design makes it comfortable to wear all day, and the interface is intuitive, making it easy to access stats and notifications. Syncing with his iPhone works seamlessly, allowing him to review progress, set goals, and stay motivated. For anyone looking for a well-rounded GPS watch that balances performance, ease of use, and smart features, the Forerunner 55 is a fantastic option. It’s durable, dependable, and a great tool for anyone serious about staying active.

An excellent buy !
I love this watch! Bought it to replace my 11 year old Garmin, which probably the forerunner (no pun intended lol) to this model .I’ve only had the watch for a few days but so far so excellent. Very lightweight, comfortable, great features, even synchs with my Apple mobile so I get messages coming through. I think Garmin products are great.

Excellent watch at good price
Easy to use and very budget friendly watch. I bought it to record tracks so I can see them on the map later. Now I am using it to reach my sleep, body battery, and stress levels. There are of course a lot of better options out there but far more expensive. I am very happy. One thing is that the strap could be a little bit longer.

Super
