a number of reports say get the right size tips. are a range of tip sizes supplied with the earphones ?

There are 3 sizes - small medium and large. I used the large. They lasted for 3 weeks! I had to purchase other tips. Soft spongy tips will always deteriorate quickly. They may provide a secure noiseless fit….but only briefly. The best are the silicone tips provided by independent producers.

Anybody pressing the touch controls by accident when adjusting the fit? I hate that

Occasionally, yes. However, as you get more used to it, it becomes less of a problem. Accidental button press can be eliminated by selecting on or off in the app, and then when you're happy with the fit, the opposite may be selected...

Can you use those cables that keep the headphones chained together to prevent loss with these headphones?

Are these good for running? Are they secure in the ear?

They weren’t too bad. The first time I ran 5k in them, the left one fell out a couple of hundred metres from my front door on the way back. I couldn’t recommend these though after they fell apart and Sony customer service let me down. You can see my 5 star review that got revised back down to 1 star. If you look at the pics, I’m not the only one to have had an ear bud fall to pieces due to poor material. Amazon refunded mine and I’ve now got the Bose ones. They fit very securely in your ear. Very happy with the Bose.
