Much more interesting and reinforcing than flash cards
This product has been around for a long time. This was what my piano teacher used to teach me the notes on the staff when I was just turning five. The interactive nature of this device/toy is incredible. I've been teaching for over 20 years and have used this since I started teaching, and have had incredible success at a faster rate than those teachers I've worked with who use flashcards. The flashcards are helpful as a take-home practice method, however, in the lesson, It's an incredible teaching tool. It can be fragile since it is mechanical and uses a string to move the note up and down the staff, so handle with care. I tell my students to only use the turning dial on the side and not to touch the note itself. it can make the string less taught.

Very helpful during a piano lesson when teacher sees pupil missing certain notes repeatedly
Love this product! Mike Piano teacher in the 1950s used it and I was so happy to see that it’s still available. It’s no longer paper covered. It is now plastic covered.I recommended it to my piano students and one of the families received their product with the note having fallen off. They contacted this company and have yet to receive anything. This company ships directly and it does take them quite a while to get the product to you, Compared to Amazon shipping.Overall, very happy with the one I received

Great, fun tool for reinforcing note names!
The media could not be loaded. This is a great, fun tool for reinforcing note names. A nice alternative to flash cards. You turn the black rod at the right hand side and the note either raises or lowers, being attached to thread/thin string on the back. I usually use it first with the students and then at the end give them a try at being "teacher", with them moving the note and asking me the name, then correcting me if I'm wrong. I really like that it address ledger lines and shows the middle C line as central. Often for most beginner readers, the middle C is not always portrayed quite like this, so it helps them put it all into perspective. I'm very pleased I got this and would highly recommend it to other teachers, students and parents. I always encourage my students to be gentle with it as it doesn't seem super sturdy, but fingers crossed it will last for a long time.

Handiest teaching tool for learning to read music
When I was 5 years old, my piano teacher had this tool. I was fascinated by it. I learned to read music with it easily.Flash forward 62 years. I'm a music teacher (voice) myself now for over 30 years. I found I had students that couldn't read music, and it was really hindering their ability to learn new songs. I remembered the Wright-Way Note Finder from my childhood and wondered if it were still available. Lo and behold, there it was ... and on Amazon, to boot!My student's love it. I mostly teach adults, many church choir singers, who have always wanted to be able to sight-sing, they just didn't know how. With the Wright-Way Note Finder, I have a system that requires only 30 minutes to teach that. I HIGHLY recommend this wonderful item.

The magic staff
I use this for my online piano classes and recorder classes to help with note reading. I’ve taught piano for years, and this little handy tool has done more in five minutes than any other note reading meathod I’ve ever used. It suddenly just clicks for my students! I think it’s because they can watch the notes move around the staff and suddenly understand that they’re all connected. They can see the pattern and watch it come to life right before their eyes! It’s fun to pull it out (especially during online video classes) and watch their eyes light up when the notes suddenly starts moving around the staff! It’s magic!! I’m so thankful I found this magic staff!

I think it's a clever tool and I will keep it for myself. However, I was hoping to find a tool I could give each of my students and find that the mechanism on the back will break too easily. It also does not lie flat so cannot be safely transported from one site to another. I am satisfied with the overall movement of the mechanism and accuracy of the "display".
