I have an aquaclear 70. where should i keep this filter with respect to the other media that's already in there?

As long as your aquaclear 70 filter is setup with the water flowing through the sponge, activated carbon and then through the biological media, you should place our Premium Dual Density Filter Pad after the sponge. The more open weave side of our pad should be against the sponge. With this configuration the sponge will trap the larger particles and smaller particles will be trapped by our pad. Will it be safe to use it in my cat’s water bowl that has a pump to circulate water?

It won’t filter out what a water filter will as this doesn’t contain filtering media such as carbon but it can’t hurt either.

I have a fluval 305 which way does the pad go into the basket fine side down or fine side up?
