Maped Compact Cut Paper Trimmer (089301)

I bought this item to mainly trim coupons, it works like a champ. I did a few test cuts to 'zero it' - knowing where to place the paper and it works as advertised. Not the fanciest or most expensive but I can store it easily in a desk drawer. I can carry it, coupons, and a hard surface (a large clip board or anything else firm) and trim easily while sitting in a chair watching TV. It advertises a 5 sheet capacity, I only do two or three at a time as the end lip is not that tall and if you don't pay attention the paper will ride up over it. I'd say start by cutting one sheet at a time and after a bit, move up to more sheets. I looked at all options before I bought this one with criteria being price and functionality - for me this fit the bill. It comes with one extra blade taped on the bottom side but I have decided I like this one enough that I am logged into AMZN now to order some more blades (just in case). Highly recommend it for a quick and easy trimming solution.

Bought this cutter today.. Purchased it because i am on a working vacation and needed to cut postcards out of 100lb. (260 g/m) bristol paper. It cuts a straight line if you are careful to align your page. The squaring bar is useless (as it is on all low end cutters) so just use your eyes, and add some layout markers if need be. This is a 10 dollar tool so don't cry when you need to throw it in the garbage. Mine came with two blades, both double sided. Based on my experience with similar products I will easily be able to cut about 1000 4x6 cards out of the stock mentioned above. I sell my cards for a dollar a piece so do the math. If you don't trust your eyes or are looking for something that is easier to use , then purchase a better trimmer. If you are cutting coupons or scrapbooking this tool will function just fine, but honestly to my way of thinking i can not for the life of me imagine using this thing to cut out a coupon... that's what scissors are for, and besides when is the last time you saw a sunday paper full of coupons. If you are "scrapbooking" use a scissors, because remember.. you are "scrapbooking" key word scrap. All cutters will have blades that go dull titanium or not, so you just have to deal with that. My advice, as I am sure the blades are nearly as much as the tool itself (if you can even find them) would be to simply buy another one of these for ten dollars, as it functions exactly as it should.... it functions as a ten dollar trimmer.

It's been a week since my purchase and I don't use this cutter much. I bought it two weeks ago, March 31,2011 and to date have cut about only 30 single sheets of paper. No doubles! Today is April 12 and I need new blades for this cutter. Will probably buy a more durable and more expensive one.
