Another $160.00 down the drain!
I have to admit, I liked the way this watch looked in the photographs. But, as many of the reviews have pointed out, the minute hand is next to imperceptible. I got this watch last Thanksgiving and wore it one time. For some reason I didn't like it very much -- I think it had something to do with the difficulty I encountered making the clasp lock. Anyway, I put it away for three months and tried to wear it again last night, thinking that a little practice was all I needed to get used to it. After an hour of fiddling with it I was no better off than the first time I tried it. So I tossed it on the carpeted floor in my bedroom and picked it up again in the morning to give it another try. The toss to the carpeted floor was enough to tear the mesh band, right where it attaches to the frame of the watch. As others have pointed out, this watch does not accept any of the conventional bands. and a replacement would cost about $80.00. That does not include the cost of shipping it back to the manufacturer, waiting for it, etc. The clasp had already been ruined just trying to put it on. Any pressure at all is enough to bend it out of shape, rendering it completely useless and unfixable. The mesh band is so cheap it tears like a threadbare bed sheet. I tore the band off the watch with about as much force as you would use to tear a piece of masking tape from its roll. My next step was to take the watch out in my garage, place it gently on the cement floor, and give it one good whack with a ten pound sledge hammer. The reason I gave this a 5 star rating is because most people who have already zeroed in on a product neglect to read the one star reviews. I wore this watch one time only and now it is in the trash. This is the absolute truth. You would not buy a pair of hiking shoes made out of toilet paper. You should not buy a watch with a band made out of steel wool.

Not another heavy glass jar!
Received this today. It ships in another unnecessary heavy glass jar as did my previous Bering watch. Waste of shipping weight and would no doubt be priced for considerably less if one could be found with out it. As for the watch itself, it's ok. But It just doesn't turn my crank as well as the Casio WaveCeptor series. Plus I don't care for the dark purple (navy?) center dial and the white on the minute hand is too narrow and hard to find sometimes at a glance. It's touted as a men's watch but I can see how the modern slender styling could possibly appeal to women as well. I may be doing a return.*update: June 8* decided to keep it and bumped it up one star from three to four. The looks have grown on me and so I gave it the benefit of the doubt and wore it on the job stripping latex paint. Found the fine mesh band cleans up easily with a toothbrush and water. The diamond hard sapphire crystal is a definite plus for those that may occasionally forget to take it off on the job. Lights out and the lume on the hands and indices seems adequate and still readable by 5 a.m. However, lacking radio sync (which my Casio's have spoiled me) and like my previous Bering purchase, the 11939-393, this watch has gained 2 seconds in less than a week. Which isn't a real big deal since we'd prefer to be somewhere a little early than late but some may consider this unacceptable for a $200+ watch these days.I've put a scented soy tea light candle in the glass Bering jar/cup by the window on my desk. Looks and smells real nice and they claim to burn for nearly 5 hours. Jelly Beans, Scented Soy Tealights, 12 Pack Clear Cup Candles Nevertheless, I still feel Bering could sell a lot more of these watches at a more competitive $79.95 price point if offered in a simple cardboard box rather than with this unnecessary heavy glass packaging.*update* 14 June: I have been wearing this watch now everyday on my job as a production machinist. In addition to the protection of the sapphire crystal, the low profile further precludes the watch from scratches. A concern and problem with thicker time pieces. I only wonder just how long the dark blue anodized finish will actually last. Especially around the sharper edges of the case. Still runs a few seconds fast but I continue to be satisfied with it so far.Note: I own several watches with mesh bands and the clasp on this Bering is of the double fold type and is superior to most. Very easy to operate and solid locking with no worry of coming loose. I think it's funny Amazon US lists this as a men's watch while Amazon UK lists it as a women's! Beringtime.com clearly has this in their men's collection.*Update*-nearly a month on, Jul 1: hadn't worn this for a few weeks now. Dug it out of a box, held it next to my just synced Citizen satellite wave and am blown away to see it is dead nuts accurate! To the second! Wow haven't touched it since the 14th.

Delivered on time & package protection is beyond excellent...
The top of the line European watch for the money that will last for at least 10 years minimum with no mechanical parts to wear out. The solar powered watch needs no battery replacement for at least its natural internal battery life of a minimum of 10 years. This watch is guaranteed to withstand an air pressure of 5 atmospheres without exploding into pieces (one atmosphere = 14.7 lbs of air pressure per square inch; therefore, 5 x 14.7 = 73.5 psi). Scuba divers may wear this watch up to a depth of 50 meters or roughly 150 feet deep in fresh or sea water. The face of the watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal which is scratch proof & scientifically known to be the 3rd hardest substance after diamond. The strap is a hospital grade stainless steel with a design to aerate your skin thus preventing rashes. The design does not overwhelm ones eyes but is simply, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever to wear". I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND BUYING THIS WATCH AS IT EMBRACES TECHNOLOGY, USEFULNESS, ELEGANCE & THE ROOTS OF A WELL THOUGHT OF SCIENTIFIC DESIGN SIMPLICITY AS WELL.
