SUIZANJapanese Folding Dozuki Dovetail Pull Saw 9.5 Inch, Hand Saw for Woodworking

I am the ninja
Im a working building carpenter, not a furniture maker. I use japanese pull saws for trim carpentry. They are especially handy when i just need to make a quick adjustment cut and don't want to reach for the circ saw or climb down off the scaffolding to the chop saw. I can pull the folding dozuki out of my belt, flip it open like a switch blade knife, cut a perfect miter on a window casing, and flip it back into my belt all with one hand, holding the work piece in the other, all in one smooth motion. Basically, it's like, I'm a run of the mill white guy, but this saw turns me into a ninja. Need a say more? This thing is awesome. Oh and the blade is razor thin, which means you're removing less material, which means you don't have to work as hard as with a thicker blade on a typical pull saw. It actually goes through 2by framing lumber quickly enough it's useful for that too.

Easy to use, surgically sharp, micro thin kerf, highly recommend!!
Not only my favorite saw, this is my favorite tool in the shop. Been using it for several weeks. The kerf is ridiculously thin and the teeth are surgically sharp; you have to be very careful not to ding the teeth on anything or they will bend (I biffed a couple teeth and had to push them back into line w/thumbnail but after I did it is back to clean cutting and smooth to use; I'll order replacement blades in case of accident on the job). The cut it produces is the closest to perfect finish I've gotten off ANY saw EVER. It draws easily due to thin kerf & lotta teeth per inch. The long handle is easy on the hand. The folding feature means I can take it to the work on the job and not worry about protecting the teeth like non-folding types. I heard about it from Jonathan Katz Moses' U-tube channel. I'll order the folding Suizan Ryoba saw shortly for a matched pair. I use this saw to start any cut for accuracy, then switch to a fatter kerf saw if needed for deep cuts. Like Jonathan said, use little more than the saw's weight, don't bear down, and it should cut well and fast just by pulling it straight thru the cut. If I'm making a deep cut this will set up the kerf line to maybe an inch deep & the next (3x kerf) saw will track right down the initial cut to continue to depth. Highly recommend this brand and this saw (I have a variety including one other made in Japan pull saw, hands down the Suizan is faster & cleaner cutting and way thin!)

Suizan Folding Dozuki -- Worth the extra $$
Just starting to hand cut dovetails. I bought a cheap dovetail pull saw and it just didn't cut it (yes, I know). The cheap saw required too much effort, such that it was distracting from the effort to keep it straight. The Suizan folding saw is thinner and evidently sharper. Makes quick work of even gang cuts, and with the K-M dovetail guide, I'm getting my dovetailing together. It folds back into its own handle and won't let you break teeth off if you put it in a tool box as opposed to hanging it up. I recommend it.

Missing a screw.
I bought this and used it this weekend. It worked well, but when I went to put it away at the end of the day I noticed the blade was loose. After a little more investigation I noticed the screw at the end of the blade was missing. I'm not sure if it was missing when I bought it or if it fell out during first use. I looked around, but I had already swept up and vacuumed, so if the screw fell out during use, it was gone. I checked the other screw and it was loose too, so it might have fallen out during use, but I'm not going to search through a 20 gallon bag of sawdust for a tiny screw that might not even be in it.If they send a replacement screw I will change my rating, if not it will stay as is as a warning to double check the screws when you buy this saw.

Well made
This saw has very fine teeth. Finer than most crosscut pull saws. That's a good thing. Cuts easily, although a bit slower because of the fine teeth. This saw is very good for precise joinery cuts. I think it's a great saw, and live how it's protected when folded.
