Q: When my wife, mother-in-law and uncle began this puzzle it became quickly apparent that 2 sections were missing. sections b and f. replacement?

I did not have any missing pieces with this company. Try contacting the company directly via their web site. Normally with any company I have dealt with, if I had a piece missing and contacted them they have always replaced the puzzle. I would think this company would too.

About 2/10 of a centimeter in thickness.

Q: Are all 1000 piece puzzles marked on back with a,c , d, and e?

Yes, some of the puzzle pieces are marked with a,b,c, etc. But, not all of them. I don't know about the one I have bought from them.
