PPI FE Chemical Review Manual – Comprehensive Review Guide for the NCEES FE Chemical Exam

Just passed by FE with this book, but beware of MANY typos
This book is a great review tool for the Chemical Engineering FE. However, I noticed more than a couple significant typos throughout the book, even within example problems. EX: in the solution to one problem, the book got the final answer by dividing a value with a number that was 10^6 off from the correct value! While it showed the correct final answer, it took me 20 minutes starting at the solution to figure out what went wrong. Overall I still recommend this book, but beware of these typos throughout the book.

it really does help!
genuinely thought i may not have a guaranteed pass, as i didn’t get it all done in ~30 days.i started mid-february and stopped right before my exam (end of june), missing the economics and ethics sections and still not fully grasping process control. not to mention i had a handful of periods where i wasn’t able to study at all cuz i had travelled for a week or two.but it didn’t matter, i passed! this was my second attempt too, the first time all i used was the ncees fe chem practice exam and some old school notes, and it wasn’t enough. this go around i used this book, that fe practice exam, the ncees interactive practice, and also a practice problem pdf i found on reddit. not to attribute my success to the book alone because a variety of factors impacted my success, but i will say to give it a go if you’re debating.

Expensive, but gets the job done
I prepared for my FE Chemical exam over 30 days (max ~1-2 hours daily), and purchased this review manual to make my study efficient, while refreshing my knowledge since I graduated roughly 7 years ago. Each section of the FE exam is represented by a chapter, and is preceded by a diagnostic exam to test your knowledge of that area - super helpful for focusing your study time on areas of weakness.Like others have mentioned, there are a few typos, and the level of detail on each topic exceeds what you will be expected to know for the FE exam itself (I believe it's meant to introduce concepts for subsequent PE exam review). There are also basically no questions in this book aside from the 10 diagnostic questions per chapter - a lazy attempt to encourage folks to buy the Lindeburg FE ChE practice manual, recommend buying a (much cheaper) NCEES example FE exam.I do credit this book with allowing me to pass the FE after such a short study period, however I think it is overpriced for what it is. If you can spare the cash, need to refresh your ChE knowledge, and have limited time to study - I recommend purchasing.

Pass the FE Chemical Exam No Problem
I based my study schedule for the FE Chemical Exam around this manual. I went through this manual in 2 weeks reading everything and working every example honestly. It gives a good review of all the relevant topics and the problems are harder/longer than the actual exam. After using this manual for 2 weeks I switched over to the FE Chemical Practice Problems book (also by Lindeburg) to work on topics I felt less confident in that had been exposed by the diagnostic exams in the review manual. If you want to be over prepared and comfortable for the exam this is the way to go. Passed the exam no problem.

Lousy proofreading
This book is helpful, but the proof reading is terrible. Problems have clearly been edited without being checked and the answers are wrong. This isn't my getting complex problems wrong, it's basic stuff like the difference between alkanes and cycloalkanes. It's problem solutions using different values that the ones given in the problem statement. I hope Lindburgh didn't sign off on any chemical operations near me

Awesome tool for reviewing
This book covers every major topic that I studied in my undergraduate chemical engineering curriculum and does a very good job of organizing each topic neatly. The book is organized by topic, thrn further by subtopics, then even further by splitting up into sections in each subcategory based on what equations and concepts you'll need for that section. They have diagnostic exams at the beginning of each chapter to gauge your understanding of the material before you even start.

Good book!
This book is really good and necessary to prep for FE exam. It covers everything needed in chemical engineering. Keep in mind that the computational section is not included in FE 2020 exam as NCEES has updated in ChemE specifications.

A pleasant read
I'm halkf way through the book and it has great organization. The intro is also pleasant read. I'm impressed with the author's candidness throughout the book. I also appreciate how they book notes the differences between this and the handbook.
