Is the filter removable from the lid?

No it is not. Filter is built into the lid. Brilliant design. No hot steams comes out of tea pot. It seems this filter is built to block steam release, reuse it to warm of water. It is the most brilliant design I ever had. Strongly recommend it.

Is the plastic on the the lid filter BPA-free?

The question was about what appears to be plastic that makes up the water filter. The whole kettle is stainless and then it's ruined because the boiling water needs to go through a non-removable filter with plastic components.

What kind of stainless steel is this made of (at least the part that is contact with the water)?

I don’t know what kind or any name of any kind but it is made with solid heavy duty natural stainless. No chemicals refinished.

Does this have plastic or silicone on the inside?

There’s a draining net below the lid that’s plastic, but it’s not touching the water.
