Almost a year of use and still impressive
I got this after traveling through Germany last spring. I loved how everywhere I went they had machines like this that made high quality beverages. I ordered this while waiting for my flight home and am so happy! Easy to use, quick start up, decent water capacity, easy to clean, and most importantly it makes consistently delicious espresso/coffee. The steamer wand is excellent, and never fails. The size of the machine isn’t too large. The noise level is medium. I try not to make anything early in the morning before everyone else is up because it will wake the little ones. I’ve made close to 1000 espresso per the machine count (I like coffee…maybe too much) and it is working just as well as when I first got it. Highly recommended!!

6 Months in and broken with useless support
After about 6 months of use, this $700 machine says I need to add water and does nothing else. It's a brick with one single message. Their support answers once every 1-2 days. And they take it one step at a time. Day 1 = is the machine plugged in?. You can imagine how long you'll be without your $700 machine once it goes down. It makes stellar coffee once you get the chemical crap flushed off the brew group. I used one from an older machine that broke after 2 years. I think this will be my last Gaggia. Excellent coffee. Terrible lifespan.

Best super-automatic home espresso machine
Definite bang for your buck. Espresso is consistent, adjustability of the grind and how hot to brew each drink is a must. A very consistent machine. Cleaning is easy. Even the deep clean, which we do about once a month is straight forward and simple. Once you figure out how to remove the brew chamber and replace it easily. We upgraded from our previous Gaggia super automatic. The touch screen and drink options. Really add a great value. If you always want to be able to grab an espresso or coffee to go in the morning, be sure to fill the beans and the water reservoir the night before.

Well, actually, it was a packaging problem
I couldn't figure out why the "first startup" procedure wouldn't work. Silly me. The screen wouldn't light because it was covered with an opaque "example" sticker that looked like normal operation should. I pulled it off, and... well, it should work normally. FOLLOWUP: this machine works amazingly well. I tinkered around, wound up measuring the coffee weight in my cheap old machine, increased Gaggia's coffee weight, set the "two cup" espresso option, increased the strength option a notch, an presto! Good crema, great flavor and, once I saved the settings, automatic coffee the way I like it with a single button press! MORE FOLLOWUP: I liked it so much that I bought a 2nd one for our summer place. Note that, on startup, you'll get a "maintence required -5" message. Lift the water tank, plug it in again, and hopefully you'll get rid of the air bubble in the water system.

Wanted a Jura but glad I got this
I had a colleague who brought in a Jura to work. I had no idea what good coffee could taste like. Unfortunately, I couldn't justify a $2k coffee maker but found the Italian Gaggia. It is awesome and makes coffee just as good. The major differences I see are the plastic parts. The Jura is all quality metal materials where the Gaggia uses some plastic to save money. It is still solid and I expect it will last 5+ years which for the money is great. A much better coffee than a Keurig with no plastic waste. A definite buy.

Terrible machine, awful product design — a cleaning nightmare
Try cleaning this machine and the experience will make you hate coffee forever. How can every little thing jam, leak, or break on such an expensive product in such a short amount of time? Want to get the brewing unit out to clean? Good luck getting it back in — lift this piece, move that piece over, make sure the other thing is upright, hop on one leg, make sure it's a full moon, and then MAYBE it'll go back into the right position. Try to get it out? JAMMED. Gaggia should be ashamed of themselves for selling this high-priced garbage to customers.

Latte macchiato in about two minutes
I have a stainless steel milk pitcher but haven’t used it since I bought this machine almost a year and a half ago. Instead, I eyeball the amount of milk I pour into my latte mug, use the steam wand in the cup for about 70 seconds (adding just enough foam), and then put the cup under the spout for two shots of espresso. It’s perfect every time. This machine is great. Second Gaggia super-automatic for me (the first one served me well and is now being used by a friend). Easy to clean and lube as needed. Highly recommended! I’m already “shopping” for my next Gaggia because I love the brand so much, even though this Magenta Plus is barely broken in.

Perfect espresso macchiato
I don't usually leave reviews but this machine produced the perfect espresso macchiato for me, as good as a decent barista. It took a few tries after setup but the result was fabulous. Would never go back to Nespresso
