what's the difference between the blue 4 oz bottle and this black 5.07 oz? I have found the blue woks better.

I have not tried the blue bottle. I had tried numerous products for curly hair but none worked as well as Catwalk in the black and green bottle. I get my hair wet in the shower, towel dry and use a small amount rubbed on my hands and distributed through my hair. I "fluff" the hair and am ready to go. It usually takes a little more "fluffing" after it has dried to give more lift.

Is one pump considered the right amount? I often wonder about the time spent on designing such unique dispensing methods.

The right amount is the amount YOU need for your own hair. I wonder about these designs, too. But I don't think they're aiming for how much you'd need since they have no idea how long your hair is. I think they consider it more convenient, and it's pretty good for that.

Can companies stop filling their products with fragrances & drying alcohol, both damaging to skin, hair & health? this is loaded with fragrances

My answer to the above question is no. They will never stop adding these unnecessary harmful additives to their products for a huge variety of reasons. Too many to list here.
