Now That's a Good Question!: How to Promote Cognitive Rigor Through Classroom Questioning

A Must Have Resource for Any Educator!
The media could not be loaded. Erik's book arrived at just the right time. One of our focuses in our PLCs this year is cognitive rigor and planning intentionally for the right DOK level for the standard. Now That's a Good Question is a practical guide with strategic examples and is an excellent resource to support raising the cognitive level of questioning.

Fantastic resource for adding cognitive rigor
Our district administrators are reading this excellent book and then taking learning to their staffs. We are finding the information so valuable and eye-opening that we are bringing in the author to speak to and train our teachers.

If you are a teacher, you need to get this book!
I have been a teacher for many years and read many books. This is possibly the best book I have purchased. It is an easy read and easy to implement. Erik had a winner! Skoehler

Love your new book
Love your new book! I like how you have broken down the types and examples. This will be a powerful resource fueling and supporting research based practices of Marzano's questioning and cues.

Disappointed, Better Choices out there!
Have never been so excited to receive a book with such a great title. However, was so disappointed.Poorly organized, ideas poorly articulated. If you question is, Is this book going to help me promote cognitive rigor in your classroom?Chances are, the answer is a huge no.Keep searching, there are several others out there that far exceed what this can offer.

The Power of a Question
I read this book back in the summertime when it came out. I usually read most ASCD books. What I like about this book is that the power of strategic questioning in the classroom is often overlooked each day by educators--mostly inadvertently--and never purposely. If we know the depth of knowledge far above Bloom (when we all learned about Taxonomy back in our pre-service training), we can have a better handle on the link between our questions as teachers and student learning outcomes. When questions are deliberately constructed to assist with DOK, we can have a remarkable impact on students' thinking skills and achievement. This book does that (and more). It is a pretty rare topic, but one that needed to be addressed in education and although there are some books that discuss the power of formulating strategic questions, this is by far the book that will take this topic in its most comprehensive form and hit a home run for teachers. This is also a great book for school leaders, as well, in order to have great conversations with staff about questions, cognition, and helping with solid, rigorous teacher feedback. Well done. Well done, indeed.

Disappointed!
Not what I thought it would be. Table of Contents was not clear. More for middle and high school and not elementary.

Now that’s a good BOOK!
Francis has created resource to look at eight different kinds of questions. He focuses on how all teachers can maintain high levels of rigor. Examples include fine arts in addition to core areas. He has templates to use and comparisons to help differentiate good and bad questions. So helpful.
